Tropical Nursing Diploma

Is there any school in canada that offers any tropical nursing courses? Can't seem to find anything off of google.

Specializes in NICU, PICU, PCVICU and peds oncology.

I would be very surprised. Canada barely qualitifes as temperate, so there's not a lot of demand for tropical medicine or nursing. Now hypothermia, frost bite, chilblains... that we get!

I was just wondering because MSF requires RNs to take a tropical nursing course.

Specializes in ER, ICU, OR, OBS.

None that I know of. Let us know if you find something.

lol the only one i could find is in london, england.

London School of Hygeine and Tropical Medicine is the only one i know of really.

zepher, unless we can manage to have the course online, our next alternative is to work in First Nations or Northern nursing stations).

"Desirable:

Knowledge of other languages, particularly French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian and Arabic

Course in Tropical Nursing or 1-2 years relevant work experience (including First Nations or Northern nursing stations)

1-2 years Post Graduate experience in one or more of the following: Public Health, Nutrition, Infectious Diseases, Paediatrics, Obstetrics, Emergency, Operating Theatre and HIV/AIDS

Previous overseas work experience in a similar role with another non-governmental organisation (NGO) "

Note that its desirable, not required. If you're looking for an alternative, I'd say look into internships with Projects Abroad. The have a wide variety of fields that are relavant and it'd cover the whole over seas work experience with an NGO.

It definitely will help but first nations experience deal with a lot with issues and health concerns similar to that of projects abroad( third world if you may). they do have lack of access to the health services to start with.
