Tri-C in Cleveland

U.S.A. Ohio

Published

A while ago I posted asking about the nursing program application process at Tri-C. I just wanted to update that I received acceptance into the Spring 2010 semester :D. The process was actually pretty fast. I am very excited. Hope to hear from others that will also start at Tri-C in the Spring.

NewStart2010:yeah:

Wow, sounds like Tri-C isn't going to be able to claim that they don't have a waiting list anymore.

ForeverLaur - if you really want to get in quick, find out which hospitals in the area have agreements with the nursing schools to place so many of their employees and then get a job with those hospitals. EMH has a program and I'm told they place up to 20 of their employees each semester into the LCCC program.

None that I know of. I used to work for OhioHealth and they gave you discounts at CSCC and Otterbein, but employees were not given any preference. I work for Mt Carmel now and employees get 50% off Mt Carmel tuition, but again, no preference for admission. OSU is the only other hospital system here and they only offer a traditional 4 year BSN and I don't have the time or patience to return to undergrad like that.

Never easy!

CSCC told me yesterday that they have no wait list. When I apply in July 2010 I will definitely get to start March 2011. Previously, students had to wait a sold 2 years (July 2010 start in August 2012 type stuff). I wonder if that is accurate or not. Looks like I'll probably be starting August 2011 in the accelerated program at Tri-C though. I'm not better that CSCC will let me start that soon and I am betting that Tri-C will be full for Spring 2011 before I am eligible to begin the application process in May.

For anyone that has taken the A2 or even the NET test I suppose.. is the study guide that you can buy a real big help?

Of course, I know that it must help some.. but I have been having trouble locating one seeing as I've been going to my campus bookstore (where I was told I could get it) and they keep telling me they are waiting to get more in.. they said hopefully they would have it by the end of the week.

Well, my test is next Thursday and I have just been studying off anything I could find online on the A2. Now, do you think this is enough just working on basic math skills and english skills, or should I be doing more? As I recall, we are only getting tested on English and Math, and none of the other portions count. I am just wondering as to how much in depth they go into these two sections and if I need to be studying more than just the basic concepts.

My other choice is to reschedule my test.. so it would end up being sometime in February. If I do this, I risk the chance that the program may fill up if I delay anymore. I'm kind of between a rock and hard place and cannot decide which would be better.. to wait, or to go for it anyways.

Any insight is appreciated!

If you are only doing reading comprehension and math you should be fine. Review basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) by hand including basic fractions and decimals. Also know basic unit conversions (example - converting pints to liters) and roman numerals. Otherwise - you will be fine.

I got my letter today from Tri-C to sign up for the A2!! :D:D:D:D:D Here's to hoping there are still spots left in the modified program for Fall 2010!!

Good luck getting into the fall 2010 program! I hope things work out for you.

Thanks! and actually I really got lucky... I was able to actually find the review at Barnes and Noble. I went there after class today and was able to pick it up so I definitely am much more confident now knowing that I have the proper study tool. So, if anyone is having trouble getting their hands on the exam review.. check some local bookstores.. I found it at the Mentor Barnes and Noble.

Tri-C is also trialing the science portion of the exam, but none of that counts towards your score at this time, so if you are running out of time, make sure you get the math and language (reading comprehension, grammar) done first.

Right, so I will be taking the science part of it.. but it doesn't count towards my score, correct?

I got my letter yesterday from Tri-C to take the entrance exam and it told me I only had to take the Math, Grammar, Vocab, and Reading Comprehension sections...

Mine just says that those are the portions that I have to pass with a 75% or higher.. it doesn't say those are the only sections that I have to take. On the yellow sheet that came in the letter.. it says the division of nursing only consders the scores for the math and composite english sections.. which is why I assumed I would still take the science portion but it wouldn't matter what I scored on it.

Ahh valid point. I didn't read that closely!! Oh well.. I'm confident with the sections I have to get scored on and I've gotten over a 90% in all my practice tests in those areas!

I'm taking the exam on January 27. Super nervous and super excited!! I really want to start this August in the modified program!!
