Tri-C in Cleveland

U.S.A. Ohio

A while ago I posted asking about the nursing program application process at Tri-C. I just wanted to update that I received acceptance into the Spring 2010 semester :D. The process was actually pretty fast. I am very excited. Hope to hear from others that will also start at Tri-C in the Spring.

NewStart2010:yeah:

okay -- did i just waste my money on the NET? where is the info on this new test A2? Also, accelerated applicants are exempt from taking the NET currently -- I know that is changing but not until Fall of 2011. So, do you think there is any chance of getting in for Fall 2010 to accelerated? My other thought was this...because I have a financial aid issue -- since I already have a bachelor's I am on warning maximum time frame with my financial aid since i have so many transfer credits....should i apply to LPN and finish that, get a job somewhere and then go back for RN? I really can't afford to wait for Fall 2011 since I will have to start paying back loans within six months of being out of school....i also can't get more financial aid unless i have an imminent start date for nursing....with the LPN track I could appeal my financial aid keep it going and finish that certificate and work toward RN once I have been working for a year. Not the route I want to go, but we do what we have to do......I have also applied to Huron since I had all the pre-reqs done. I believe they will review my application for the Fall class sometime in March. Sort of a mess over missing one lousy question......what is the Hesi A2 score required for admission to the generic track?

I'm in your same boat. I have a bachelors degree as well and I have 170 semester credit hours that transferred to Tri-C. They told me I just have to submit a petition each year stating that I am in the nursing program or pursuing classes for the nursing program and I won't have a problem getting financial aide. I've been graduated since March 2009 and I've taken classes at two different schools since and I had no problem getting financial aide to cover all the tuition.

I haven't found any info on the A2 but I do know that the NET has been bought out (or something like that) and eventually it won't exist ANYWHERE at any nursing school. All NET schools will be switching to the A2 just like Tri-C has. They explained this to me when I called. I'm not sure what the required score is, but you really shouldn't have a problem with it. They only require the Reading Comprehension and Math sections. Math is VERY basic math (junior high level). There isn't any algebra, trig, geometry, etc. Just very very basic math and conversions and they give you a calculator. Reading comprehension is reading a paragraph and answering some questions about it.

Honestly, your best bet is to call Tri-C and get approved to apply to the generic track for Fall 2010. Take the A2 and start the traditional track in August.

Don't waste your time with the LPN. It is an entire year to land you a poor paying job in a doctors office or a nursing home and the LPN-RN programs are longer than a year and since it is highly unlikely you will land a hospital job, that tuition will be on you.

thanks for the info....i just called tri-c and left the message for them to review my record again and send me the info for the entrance test -- i assume this will be quick since they have already reviewed my resord once and sent me info for taking the NET...glad I just wasted that 100 bucks :) Anyway, where does one take the A2 -- can it be done at Pearson as well or do you have to go to Tri-c on a saturday morning?

I was told by financial aid that unless i have an actual acceptance letter into nursing for the fall of 2010, my aid would be cut off -- i hope what u say is true...so my best hope is to get some quick info on this new test from tri-c, schedule it and PASS it!!! I can't believe that I missed 1 more question than allowed on that pesky NET -- it really wasn't that hard, but not enough questions -- only 30 so missing 7 put me right down to a 77 percent

UPDATE ALL!!!!! Just took a look at the tri-c website and the generic track is placing for Spring of 2011 -- so Fall 2010 is full....looks like it filled up a lot earlier than in the past....I guess I will hold out hope for the accelerated track and take the new test in the mean time for placement in Spring......otherwise I will be at Huron

I seem to get different answers from financial aide when I talk to them at different times. They are SUPER annoying.

This upcoming semester, I had to pay my tuition out of pocket because financial aide won't post until the end of January. I asked financial aide if this was always the case because I can't afford to pay ~$1,500 every semester out of pocket and have to wait a month to get it back. They said yes, that is my only option and if I didn't like it I should just transfer and go somewhere else. WHAT?

I later went back and talked to someone else who was extremely nice and said there is a form you can fill out and they won't pay you pay a PENNY of your tuition if you have approved financial aide unless for some crazy reason the loans don't go through. You won't be dropped for non-payment as long as that form is on file.

And holy crap.. that is 5-6 months fast!!!!!!

Foverlaur,

Just out of curiosity -- why aren't you applying to accelerated?

I took biology, chemistry, microbiology, organic chemistry, physics, anatomy, biochemistry, etc. I never took physiology (OSU doesn't have a corresponding lab). So, I don't meet the prerequisites.

I wanted to do an accelerated BSN, but they all require a 3.0 GPA. My first degree landed me a 2.1 (did it in 3 years, hated it, no clue what I wanted to do). My last 60 hours GPA is a 4.0 and my science/math/prerequisite GPA is a 3.8 but nobody will look at me until I pull it up to a 3.0 and with how many hours I have... that's a REALLY REALLY long road. My GPA isn't even quite a 2.5 after all that so I'm taking 9 credit hours at Tri-C online this semester so that they will only look at my Tri-C GPA.

I called Tri-C and from the way they are talking... the Spring 2011 program will be full before I am eligible to apply this spring/summer...

Looks like I'm taking physiology at Columbus State and starting the accelerated program in Fall 2011. Now I need to figure out how to get health insurance between now and then...

FML.

For lack of a better word: crap! Any ideas? I really need to start somewhere in the Fall....Spring wouldn't be hideous, but I have taken all the support courses and pre-reqs except the micro that I am taking this Spring -- I would definitely need to take something in the Fall to keep financial aid going -- can't start paying on loans and using the money to survive as well...will they allow you to take things like Med terminology etc. that might apply to your program even though you don't need them to graduate? I feel like my day has gone from bad to worse....

Right now at Tri-C I'm taking Medical Terminology I (MA 1020), Basic Nutrition (DIET 1200), Ethics for Healthcare Professionals (HTEC 1110), and Pharmacology (HTEC 1610). I got loans to cover all of it.

I could go to Chamberlain or Akron Institute but it isn't worth the $600 per credit hour in my opinion and the much lesser reputation. I'd rather wait. I could get into Columbus State but they have a 2 year waiting list and their accelerated program is competitive and impossible to get into (my best friend got denied 2 years running with a 3.6 cumulative, 4.0 prerequisite, 4.0 at Columbus State, and 2.5 years as a tech at a hospital).

I'm with you on the bad to worse day thing :( I just want someone to take a chance on me and quit judging me on my immature past. I had a 4.0 in high school with all honors/AP classes and i had a 34 on my ACT. I'm quite intelligent and I've finally found my passion and nobody will let me pursue it!!

I finally got everything figured out with the prometric website for my NET and I am taking the A2 on January 21st at 9am. So excited, yet so nervous!! Definitely need to get things moving if I want to start in the Fall.

I finally got everything figured out with the prometric website for my NET and I am taking the A1 on January 21st at 9am. So excited, yet so nervous!! Definitely need to get things moving if I want to start in the Fall.

Good luck!! The traditional day program is already full so I'd get a move on!!

A couple of comments:

Tri-C had no choice but to switch from the NET to the A2, as the NET test stopped being available on 12/1/09 (companies that produced competing tests merged and the NET lost out). Tri-C is very aware of the fact that some people still in the application process have taken the NET, not the A2. They will grandfather in the NET for some time yet, so check with them before scheduling the A2 if you've already done the NET.

Just because the website reflects that Tri-C is placing for a certain semester, you should always apply thinking that you might get in sooner. Many people drop out of the semester they have been placed in due to personal and family issues and some folks apply to several nursing schools and then start whichever program they can begin first. So, spaces open up all the time and are offered to those who are ready to come in.

ForeverLaur----excellent choices for support courses! These will really help you in nursing school.
