Traveling- Florida Hospitals

I'm really set on doing an assignment in Florida. I know the pay isn't exactly the greatest, and I hear different reviews on traveling there, but it's one of those places I want to at least have lived in at some point in my life. I'm sure there have been plenty of posts on this, however I was wondering if anyone could give me any feedback on which hospitals to avoid more central Florida (Tampa, Ocala- Orlando, Daytona, etc.) And possibly what companies have more of a selection for Florida? Feedback is greatly appreciated! :)

try baycare they hire the travelers directly, pm me if you want more info. they have hospitals in Clearwater close to tampa

Thanks! I'll be sure to check into it!

I'm actually looking to get into the pool at Baycare.. In Cali now on a travel assignment but would love to do local!!! I hear Baycare is the way to go... Anyone else hear this?

yep, my friends are there right now and they love it. PM me if you want info. i start next month in morton plant

Stay away from Northside and St. Pete General, both in St. Petersburgh. Both have regional if not statewide reputations for horrible staffing. I actually had a family member BEG me to call the state to report St. Pete!

To be fair I will add a disclaimer: It's been a few years since I have been back to either place so there is a chance improvements have occured.

Good luck with your travels

I have worked for baycare and cant say enough good things. They have hospitals in Tampa if that is where you are really wanting to go, but I liked Morton Plant in Clearwater. The 2 in Tampa are St. Josephs womens and St. Josephs Hospital.

Northside and St. Pete Gen are both HCA. They have a bad reputation for low pay and poor staffing ratios. They had a huge picket line last year for about 3 months!

I work at ORMC (part of the Orlando Health organization) in downtown Orlando. I LOVE my job. Florida Hospital is another great system in Orlando. Orlando Health and Florida Hospital are both working on becoming magnet hospital systems. Avoid Health Central and Osceola regional!! I don't know what the pay is in the rest of the country, but starting pay for a GN here is around $22/hours. I'm an RN 2 and I make $23.65/hour with around a 30% shift differential for working nights. My take home salary is around $60,000 and I have decent benefits.

Take home before taxes I'm guessing you mean. Or you work a ton of OT!

Gela. I am interested in working at ORMC. Any advice for standing out to HR?

I have a friend who works there. This is so true. Go with Tampa General if possible.

I wish I could help you out, but I'm guessing they are looking for the same qualities as any other hospital.
