Thousand Oaks is pretty nice, I don't live there myself but live about 20 minutes/25 miles away and have some friends that live there. The beach is about 15 minutes away, Disneyland is about an hour depending on traffic (its about 60 miles to Anaheim from T.O.) From what I've seen its a good place to raise a family, there are good schools and nice places to go there. The weather is great year round as well!! Good luck on your decision!

Thousand Oaks is a beautiful upper-class bedroom community, and the schools are generally considered high quality. In my honest opinion, I found some of the people to be snooty. These people could probably tell I was a product of Oxnard, a lower-class city in the same county.

I live in Thousand Oaks, work at the big hospital here. I love it. My kids love it. Great schools. Beautiful community and growing!
Sounds nice. How far away is Disneyland and the beach? Is it worth bringing my whole family to enjoy for a 4 week assignment? I will probably be living in a hotel b/c of the assignment length but I think it would be a good experience for them......I'm trying to convince my wife now but she isn't really buying into it b/c of the logistics involved.......

The nearest beach (Channel Islands Harbor) is about 35 miles northwest, on the 101 freeway (Victoria Avenue exit). There are other nearby beaches in the same county where Thousand Oaks is located, such as Oxnard Shores, Ventura Harbor, Pierpont Beach, Silver Strand, Hueneme Beach, and Hollywood-By-The-Sea. These are all located in the western portion of Ventura County.

For a 13 week assignment, you should easily be able to get an apt. Otherwise living in the equivalent of a studio apt for that length of time will be quite trying. Would definitely not recommend it.
Depends on the age of your children as well, and what you are used to.

Hey do you know perhaps if Oxnard and areas around are as smoggy as Riverside, or is it better because of the ocean. Also what does this traffic look like around the town, not towards LA etc. Also, what are the price ranges there for a single bedroom, because I am only seeing 1600-2000 for rent per month. Is Santa Barbara a better county to live in?:redbeathe

Along the beach in Oxnard/Ventura is some of the cleanest air in that part of the state. Ocean breezes and all that.
Thank you for your reply about pollution, etc. What about traffic in town?:redbeathe
