Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.

I've heard PICU, L & D and cath lab are some of the most sought after. Critical care in general is great. Wish I had gone that route initially.

Specializes in ICU, IR, PACU, CCRN, NE-BC.

I would say L&D and PICU are the highest demand areas where if that was your speciality you could go anywhere. ER/ICU/OR/Procedure labs are great as well. Med-Surg just be prepared for a lot of competition for assignments.

Operating Room, Labor and Delivery, and PICU are greatest in terms of available contracts, and highest pay.

Depends on what you mean by greatest opportunities. Medsurg has the most opportunities but also the greatest competition. ED is probably next in terms of where you can go. It is kind of the new bread and butter of travel nursing. L&D is super hot right now for pay, but may not when you are ready to travel (good bet though). PICU and NICU may or may not be in demand (NICU much more than PICU), but those are small areas (in more ways than one)! Such travelers are in demand because there are so few of them - hospitals don't have a lot of choice. In general, the higher up the food chain you go with advanced training, the better the pay, but potentially fewer choices of assignments. For day jobs, OR, home health, case management are the way to go.
