Hi, Friends!

Just wondering if anyone could give me info on travel nursing companies. I looked up BridgeStaffing.com. Seems nice, but I've never done travel nursing before and I am looking for advice. My husband and I are looking at moving to Texas, maybe Conroe/Houston or Dallas/Fort Worth area. Any pointers? Thanks!

hi, worldsas! i've been thinking about travel nursing for a while, but never actually did it. about month ago on my floor i took care of the patient who used to be a travel for several years. she highly recommended me american mobile http://www.americanmobile.com/

A.M. really put it to me, my 1st assignment did not know about a finish bonus, when I asked they said too bad. anyway I wound up with Gary A at Supplemental

I clear about $1200 a wk I have a finish bonus coming and they send nice gifts + plus milage-I smile all the way to the bank, I've met great people and have seen the country-& at tax time I have a kazillion write offs-what more could I ask for? If you call supplemental tell Gary I sent ya, it is the recruiter not just the company, ps A pay has never been late or messed up

Find the area you want, if at all possible make a trip to the area, last I knew job hunting was a write off on taxes, (ck with your accountant) or call the hosp and ask for the floor you want and ask if any travelers are there, ask them the good and bad-I like supplemental and they always arrange for me to talk to one of their travelers.

Any good travel company will offer you milage (this is often nego. so if they pay .40/mile you can negoitate for .60 or .80cents a mile- then look up gsa.gov +perdiem it will tell you for the area what the gov. allows weekly for mla-this is food and housing x the amt by 7 days- this is where travelers make $$$ the gov. allows you an accross the board write off no matter what you spend. So Cleveland is $1100 a wk for food and housing. Most companies will offer you with in $200 of that amt. For the sake of explaining let us say $900 /wk (this should not show on your w-2 because it is an allowable expense across the board) then you are paid a low wage, like $15/hour-Now do the math, I work a 40/h week @ $15/hour that is $600- about 15%for taxes that is $$590 + the $900 in tax free housing =$/1490/wk clear and the good part is this you are paying a lower base tax of $31,200. the difference you take in housing , to what is allowed is a write off, so if they offer you $900 and the gsa allows you $1100 then the $200. a wk is a deduction. I never let them get my housing for me, I look around for a week ask everyone in the area for a cheap clean safe place to stay, right now I spent about $500 /month for 2 rooms close to the hosp. and I keep the $3900/month - food and gas. You only have to go 60 miles to be a travler. They will pay you the other way, say $40/h and pay for your housing, but you tax base is much higher you are taxed @ about 30% of $80,000 and you do not get the write off at the end of the year-so you take home $1000/wk and get thrown in to the next tax bracket and that is another whold can of worms. The disadvanage is lower wage if you ger hurt and lower input into SS (but that won't be there when you get old anyway) any co. who will not give the housing allowance means the cost of living is too high for what they are offering. Also seewhat the finish bonus is, should be $1000 for 13 wks, and neg. if there is a parking fee @your residence or work-they should cover that in the contract. pre nego. any days off you want, such as holidays and birthday or long weekend. I have been with American Mobile Supplemental and someone else, Supplemental has tx. me the best-it really is about who your recruiter is, some are much better then others, ask for all bonus' with Supp. if you return the paper work in 48 hours there is another $100 bonus-so ask, if it is not easy talking to your recuiter when they explain something, or if it is not done in a timely manner, then ask for another recruiter. -& the $$ of all this info, if you go with supplemental tell them gary anstatt is my recruiter and I recommeded you- Write with more questions if you wnat

Wowzer! Thanks for all the info. I just put in an inquiry for Supplemental yesterday. So we'll see what happens. My husband and I really aren't doing well financially. Although we've cut many expenses, I just can't get ahead, mostly because of where I work. I'm hoping that travel nursing might help us out some and allow me to send my husband back to school. So your news sounds too good to be true, but I believe you! I've heard that travel nurses make better wages. Again, thanks for your info and I will definitely mention your name if I end up going with Supplemental. Always feel free to share more information. :typing

Hi, Kristinah!

Supplemental and American Mobile have already called me back after I applied. Supplemental says they have PACU jobs in TX and I hope I could take one of these, relatively close to where we hope to move.

I'll keep you updated and make sure I give them your full name if I go with Supplemental.

Thanks again!:nurse:

There's a Dallas area based travel company called Quest, in Frisco Texas.

Also, Favorite staffing has a local office in Dallas (& I think in Houston) and does both per diem and travel. Theoretically, you could take a travel assignment with them and then do per diem/prn at other locations in order to get the time and a half pay after 40 hours. From the travelers and agency nurses I have run into, I would say they are the highest paying for Texas.

Another, which isn't the greatest, is National Healthcare Staffing. They just merged with Nursefinders; so, if you take the travel assignment with them and do agency/per diem with Nursefinders, you get the time and a half over 40 hrs.

Invictus Medical Solutions, in Dallas, has a recruiter named Mark that specializes in OR and PACU in the Dallas area. Wouldn't recommend them as a first time traveler; but, if all else fails, wouldn't hurt. Just research, research, research before you deal with them. Save them for a very last resort.

A very GOOD wage for a traveler in Texas, doing days PACU, would be $32.00-$35.00 per hour with fully furnished housing, utilities paid, insurance and houseware package. Most likely, you will see offers around $30.00 (probably some $28.00/hr)

Why do you all think because you are makeing +$30/h and housing you are doing well-you are losing so much in taxes it's pitfull and your co is making a fortune on you. Don't you know it you take the housing pd directly to you (I think in Dallas they offer about $950 /WEEK and will not evan show on you w-2) then take a lower wage $15/h, then you are clearing then you are clearing

$600-$200 in taxes $400 + $950 tax free housing-that leaves you $1350 clear, after taxes and at the end of the year you can also write off the difference on housing pd by the co and what the gsa.gov +perdiem allows-Weekly. that is a $5 -$10,000 yr write off if you do 35 /h x 40 h you make $1400 /wk minus $500 in taxes you cl $900 and you pay taxes on $77,000 that puts you in the 33% bracket about $25,000 taxes with no other write offs. vs the $30,000 @ the lower rate of $15% = $4,500 .$25,000 in taxes vs $4,500 DUH! Now one had to tell me twice, Supplemental Travel put me on to this and I ck it out with an accountant-because I never cheat on my taxes, but I know alot of loopholes, that are legal. I am tired of working like a dog and giving it back to those who will not work. I always do at least one travel assignment a year and this year I did 2, just because of taxes. If your co did not explain this-chg co. because that are taking an across the board write off (gsa.gov+perdiem, put in your area and x's the housing and meals x7 if you are 60miles from home) this is the top across the board write off. anyone cantake this amt and it is for 1 wk. it is tax free and very legal. so I find cheap clean quiet housing-usually bargaining for a lower rate-right now I am at the La Quinta for $350/wk, because I am close enough to drive home I don't stay 2 night and I pay $250/wk (one guy up here in Clev. found a nice 2 room for $550 a month) so get looking girl.
