HEY YALL!

I am starting travel nursing this summer and my first assignment is going to be in NYC. I am curious as I want to make sure I'm not going to be getting the short end of a stick, what are the average pay rates with housing included for these assignments, if anyone has done an assignment in NYC? Would really appreciate any info!

Have you already received an offer? Posting details may encourage others to post their details for you. Housing in Manhattan versus outlying boroughs may make a significant difference on pay and fun on assignment so that is a vital point.

I don't know if the original poster can change the thread title, but since you are not interested in travel nurse salary by region, but only NYC, posting NYC in the title may also make a difference on who even reads this thread. You can always make a new thread of course.

One thing I have noticed about NYC assignments is that--much like its people-- its rates are far from "average"...I have recently seen them as low as $24, and as high as $50 for ER positions. Sometimes within the same agency, different hospitals, of course.

I did an assignment with Cross Country and it was awesome. When you go to NYC you don't do it for the pay. You pay NYC tax plus NY state tax. Th e hourly rate is lower since housing is high. But you can not put a price on what you will experience there in the city. I was able to work to work which was priceless. You walk most anywhere and you stay fit. Good luck

If you don't mind - could you PM me what you were bringing home each month with housing included? I just want to make sure I'm not getting totally jipped.

You don't want anyone else to see the pay? Regardless of what it is, the only way to find out if you are being totally ripped off is to get offers from other agencies. Period. Finding someone else with your exact level of experience and skills in your specialty that has worked the same facility when the level of demand is the same will be practically impossible. Shop around for the numbers that will apply to you.

But ask yourself, is the pay enough to live on? I assume you are not interested in NYC for the money, right? You are interested in spending three months there for the experience. Just like Florida, you can make your big bucks somewhere else. If you get both, great! But if not, so what then?

I will be starting travel nursing this summer, was thinking of doing NYC as I have the luxury of a free housing situation there, but reconsidered that assignment after I found out how little NYC RNs make. My recruiter said $18/hr is the typical base pay. That's not even competitive even with a 1500 tax free living stipend paid every two weeks. I could almost make as much staying at my current job making $27

Nope! ps. if you're thinking of going into nursing, run the other way, it's a total scam

@bigbearnurse

Is being a nurse that bad? Because I'm a new HS grad going into pre-nursing...
