I was wondering if anyone can give me an idea on the bring home pay for an assignment in Hawaii. I am looking to possibly go there the first of the year. What kind of housing is there? Is there any option for overtime? Thanks!

I've heard its low pay... I inquired with my recruiter about a position in Hawaii and she told me the pay was "low 20s" with housing provided. So low 20s per hr + perdiem + housing.

Although I haven't traveled there I did look into it. Pay was pretty awful, lots of reasons-housing was so expensive they had to offset pay as well as lots of nurses wanted to travel there. I would call a recruiter and ask what the going rate was.

The housing is up to the agency. The pay is reflected by the rate the facility is willing to pay.

Don't let an agency give you the song and dance that it it "such a desirable area to travel to".

I made $42/ hour.. earned sick and personal time and lived in a condo in Waikiki.

Considering the number of travelers willing to go to Hawaii for low 20's, there is something missing from this story.

"been there, done that" - I don't know who you are traveling through but I am currently on assignment in Maui and I am getting housing paid for and making only $26 an hour.

yes working in Hawaii is great, it would be perfect if it wasn't for the low pay. People are all really nice, it's beautiful, food is great, ect. Just wish I was making more, I'm barely getting buy with all my bills right now.... :(

Housing was pd for and you got $26/hr on top of housing? I think that would be great...a working vacation. Does this include car? or did you already have a car?

When I get ready to travel, I do not want to be screwed paywise but I am definitely doing it more to see the country and what there is out there...

Hello guys!

I just finished an assignment in Oahu, Hawaii. It was a 13- week assignment that lasted from the end of May til the end of August. I worked at Queen's Medical center in Honolulu, HI. My contract stated that I would rotate, but it was a night shift position. All other travelers received the same contract and I believe they were able to obtain more day shift positions than myself.

Queen's Medical center is the only magnet status hospital on the island. They were offering three month contracts in May, but towards the end of my contract, my agency said they were only providing month-to-month contracts. Queen's did an extensive amount of hiring and their need of traveling nurses has diminished. I took the paid housing and stayed in a studio apt in the heart of Waikiki. I did not receive a stipend for transportation. I biked to work four days of the week. A bit troublesome, but it was feasible.

I worked with a local agency called Kahu Malama. Other travelers that I worked with were using either nursefinders or altres. I believe all agencies are the same; they are all out for themselves. You just have to be careful and read over your contract!

And I agree with others; do not expect to go to Hawaii to earn a plethora of money. You can make a living out there with what the agency provides. I met another traveler who brought her two teenagers with her and honestly, she encountered a lot of financial hardship. You just have to fully assess both your personal and financial situation before you jump on an assignment in Hawaii; or any for that matter! :I Before I left, I was told Maui Memorial was in need of some traveling nurses.
