Transportation in alberta

Does anyone know how difficult is it to get around if you dont have a drivers license in canada? especially in alberta?

Here its a two step process so we have to pass a written test to get a learners permit and then pass a drivers test to get a drivers license. cos it going to take time i'd rather just do the process when i get to canada. Does it work the same way in canada? I've read around on some canadian dmv sites but i'm still a little confused.

Definitely invest in snow/winter tyres. We are struggling a bit to get some due to recent changes in Quebec where all vehicles have to have winter tyres on (well that was what I was told by the various places I was trying) Yesterday in NS we had extreme high winds and driving rain although still warm, today is going to be cooler and temp at the moment is 10 degrees lower than same time yesterday. DH tells me snow is forecasted over the next few days which I hope isn't too true as we are in the process of having a wood furnace installed and they need to go through the roof. Also be aware you may have to do some changes to the car to meet Canadian requirements

The snow-tire shortage is being felt all the way out here in Alberta too. Quebec's law has gone into effect and all cars on the road must have snow tires on them by Dec 15 or they will be towed. My daughter lives in Montreal and has had to dig up several hundred dollars to put them on her aging Honda Civic that she drives about once a week... that has Alberta plates on it.

We got a little bit of freezing rain today and high winds. The forecast low for tonight is -12C or 10F. I can't wait until my half of the garage is cleared out so that I can park my car in there! I'm already tired of scraping frost off my windows. Brushing off the snow gets old even faster. My brother better come and get his junk soon.

Buying a car is the last thing you should do. If you can't pass CRNE for 3x times , you have leave without notice and it's not as easy as NCLEX exam based on this forum"

Hi everyone,

I wrote my exam in ON, toronto. this was my first attempt, and i failed for 6 points. I was working under my temporary licence which is revoked right now. I can't work untill i pass the exam. it's very heart breaking and i'm very depressed. I also took 2 week prep course from nursing education. From my experience i found that prep course was not very helpful b/c the second booklet of my exam was full of community nursing and in prep course they didn't even touch the community nursing.

Now i wanted to join a prep course which is really really helpful. pls help me out here..........i don't know from should i srart studying again? "

I am a U.S. nurse and recently applied to CARNA, Alberta!!! They have already cashed my initial assessment & application fee, but it is almost a month now and they haven't sent me an username and password for online a/c-I just want to check what documents they have received so far:uhoh3:

Does any one know how long they generally take? Anyone who have applied to CARNA recently?

HolyHell, you mentioned abt shipping your car to Canada! Have you come accross any reliable company to help ship your car so far?

Anyone who have good or bad experience with Mercan Recruit? Capital Health suggested me to contact them, but I am feeling little uncomfortable especially when I found out that they have contracts-I don't know for how long though!!

Any inputs will be great!

Thanks.

Check your email ( don't forget to check "spam" folder if you have any ).

You have to create yourself using the file number email to you. ( source: CRNBC ).

Hey Sunshine888, I sent my application to CARNA and got an email in 16 days with my Stakeholder number and password. Greg08 is right, check your email first and if its still not there, try calling them to see whats going on.

Thanks Greg08. Yes I understand that taking the CRNE is going to be a challenge. I've been studying while I've been waiting to be assessed eligible.

I've been looking around at cost of shipping but I dont know whats reliable or not. If you find out anything, please let me know too.

Sunshine888, recheck your email from CH. It tells you all you need to know. Message me if you cant find it in the email. Oh, and I'm pretty sure that you HAVE to go through Mercan Recruit because CH uses them to process all North American IEN applicants.

Quick question for GN status: Alberta (CARNA) has GN permit for 6 months initially and can be renewed twice, altogether 18mo total. I know they allow 3 chances to pass CRNE exam, but once I am already working as a GN and if I fail the CRNE for the first time, will I still be allowed to work as a GN? Little confused.....clarifications will be appreciated!!

The answer to your question lies in this quote from the IEN registration process section of CARNA's website:

achieve a passing score on the Canadian Registered Nurse Examination (CRNE) within the maximum number of attempts allowed.

Hey HolyHell,

I was reading your posts regarding your Alberta move. Have you moved yet coz the posts were almost 5/6 months old now. I would love to share your experiences coz I will be going to Alberta (Calgary) in a few months. Information about housing, transportation, LMO, visa process etc etc….will be helpful. TC and keep in touch!!!
