I am a new grad (well I passed my boards on November) and I have been looking for a job for the past few months. I have an interview at UCLA med center's Liver Transplant ICU and I was wondering if anyone has any advice. I never worked with transplant patients in school so I am not really sure how to prepare for the interview. I have already seen one person on here who has actually had an interview at the UCLA Liver Transplant Center. Are there more of you? Help! I need a job!

Congratulations! Don't worry - they are not expecting a new graduate to have any sort of advanced knowledge about this highly specialized area. They are looking for someone with the "right stuff" to train. Smart, good GPA, knows how to learn, humble attitude (willing to accept feedback), and committment to the profession.
In the meantime, learn as much as you can about the organization and program - especially any honors or recognition they have received. Be sure to mention these at some point in the interview; everyone likes being recognized for their accomplishments, including your interviewers. Be prepared with some questions about their training/orientation program and expectations. Such as "is ACLS required?" "How much time would I have to become certified?" "How are CCRN certifications recognized?" Be honest. If you're nervous, just say so.
GOOD LUCK!!! Let us know how it turns out.
Thank you! I am trying to do research, and finding a lot about the UCLA transplant center, but not specifically about the ICU. Thank God I saved my notes from school so I have some practical trasplant and liver information there. Thank you again, your well wishes mean so much!

I just interviewed for UCLA's Liver Transplant ICU yesterday. I got a really good vibe from the unit. The director is really nice. Good luck on your interview! Mabye we will end up working together.

I interviewed with the unit director too, and got a bad vibe. Well, I don't want to say it was bad, but I don't think it was good either.

I know it's been a while, I have an interview with the director for the Liver Transplant ICU New Grad program for next week and would love some advice for the interview. This really would be my dream job and love to hear if you have any advice.

Hey great thread guys. I also have an upcoming interview next week. I am wondering for those that have already been through the process, do you remember any questions that you were asked?
Did you do dosage calculation questions?
Do you have any tips for the interview? Did you get hired there?
