translation of academic transcripts. required in CA?

Published

I would like to know, please, if BON in California will require a official transcript of my academic records be translated, officially, in English? I did my nursing course (BSN) outside of the US. I will be returing to the Bay Area after 14 years of Health work in Brazil. I would like to prepare for the exam, but first, there are these details that I am trying to clarify while in transition.

thank you and happy new year;)

Specializes in Transplant/Surgical ICU.

In order for the BON to verify that your school curriculum is equivalent with the material taught in the US nursing schools, they would have to view course content of that nursing program. So, yes they will need the transcripts to be translated. I know for a fact that my father had to get his transcripts translated from italian to english when we moved out here in order for him to get a teaching job. It was not nursing but I would believe (and hope ) that they would do the same thing in nursing.

Thank you love d OR,

Very informative indeed!!

I assume that this would be the first step before taking the exame, or can I take the required exame while the administrative process is initiated?

You will not be able to sit NCLEX until your training has been evaluated and passed by Ca BON. You will need to meet all requirements before they will give the go ahead.

Thanks again Silverdragon.

Than the first step will be with the CA BON. Therefore I need to initiate contacts with them.

Grande abraço

Your welcome, here is where you need to start, forms can be downloaded and you will need to request fingerprint cards unless in the US and can do live scan http://www.rn.ca.gov/applicants/lic-exam.shtml

Immigration status is different from licensure and they are not related. Even as a US citizen, graduating from a program out of the US requires that you meet the requirements as a foreign grad.

All required documents that are asked for must be submitted in translation to English, as well as copy of the document in their original language submitted as well. The translation must be done by a certified translator in order to be accepted. You can find a list of approved ones in your country at the US Embassy there.

In the US, no one is permitted to sit for the NCLEX exam unless they meet all of the requirements for licensure. The exam is just the final process and not the only one.

Best of luck to you.

Will close this thread since all of the information has been addressed in the other thread.
