Transitions....complete

Published

Just took "transitions" Got a "B". I couldn't expect much better. I only gave myself two weeks from the last exam I took and I got a nasty case of bronchitis that's kicking my a** but I didn't want to reschedule it. I took some sample tests on Health Differences and scored real well so I think I might tackle that one as early as next week if I can get a little study time in, otherwise it will be a couple weeks. I think I'm addicted to these exams, I can't wait to take another one!

This test is really cut and dry compared to the rest of the exams. Almost exclusively memorization. Not any critical thinking or two best answer type questions.

1) memorize the theorists and nurses in history and what they did

2) get your head wrapped around legal, insurance, and administrative type issues

3) study the associations: ANA, NLN, etc and what they stand for and have contributed to nursing.

4) Reports/Commissions: pew, brown etc.

5) make sure you take the excelsior practice exams.

I strictly used studygroup101 material for this exam. I knew from previous posters that this was a memory test and not much more so I didn't get hung up on knowing "why", just "what" does that make sense?

I wish your girlfriend the best of luck.

If your girlfriend is a visual learner tell her to check out the http://rnbridgeprogram.com/ I have heard good things about them, they do charge a monthly fee but apparently has 12-15 video lessons per Excelsior exam. I haven't used them but they may be worth a try. The problem with "transitions" IMHO is that is was such "dry" reading it could put an insomniac to sleep so it is hard to assimilate that information because it's not "exciting".

Congrats on passing Transitions. What did you use for study for Transitions, I just started study. I recently failed LS1 and have decided to move on to another class and come back later to LS 1

You should log onto MyExcelsior and download the content guide. The content guide will state the resources used with required readings, as well as contain an outline of things you are required to know to be successful on the exam. You can get an in depth understanding of each item by doing the required readings or reading whatever resources you desire and then test on the exam. You will receive an email and an authorization to test shortly after registering for the exam.

Hope that helps. The content guides are found in the resources section under downloadable content or a similar title (I'm not sure off the top of my head).

How many here are using College Network Modules to study for these exams, whether bought on ebay or with CN? I got modules cheap but am undecided if I should also get remainder of texts

I never touched any of the publishing companies with a ten foot pole let alone used them. Others have mentioned they work. I have used notes off of various yahoo groups I found when I searched for excelsior, ece, non traditional student in the yahoo groups; the 4th Edition Saunders Comprehensive NCLEX review book; and the suggested med surg book; and the practice tests offered from Excelsior. I will state that I think the most helpful have been the Saunders Comprehensive NCLEX review book and the practice tests.
