Transferring a SC license to GA

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

I am hoping someone can help clear up a little confusion for me. I graduated from TCL in Beaufort SC about 3 weeks ago. I will be taking my NCLEX in a week and a half and will originally licensed thru the state of SC (due to a conflict with the amount of clinical hours we get, so says the GA boards). My question is this: when I go to the GA Nursing boards website, it states that to get a license by endorsement, you must have worked for 3 months as an RN in your first licensed state....Is this true? I hope someone can clarify this....

Why would it NOT be true? Call them, and ask them.

rules change faster than we can recite what happened when we were licensed.

"you must have worked for 3 months as an RN in your first licensed state....Is this true?"

not true, to an extent. I'm from SC got my license in GA by endorsement, without 3 mos of experience, about 6 mos ago. If you are a new grad, you are not required to have experience, make sure you make it clear on your application that you are a new grad. However, because GABON changes their regulations so often,it is best to call them and make sure this still applies.

check their website.

If you are a new grad and obtained your license by examination just recently, you don't need to have that 3 months of work experience. Just indicate on your application " Newly Licensed. Obtained RN license by examination from state of ___ ( months,yr) ago." It worked on me.

Thank you everyone for the great replies! I am going to call the BON this week and get it clarified so I am not driving myself crazy!

Good luck getting answers from the GA BON, and good luck getting your license!! I just transferred mine from another state and it took me nearly 3 months- and that's with NOTHING that would raise flags- just a straightforward, simple license by endorsement and the application was perfectly complete. I still am waiting for my actual license and afraid I may never see that!

The worst part- I had a job waiting the entire time.

The BON was NOT helpful in the waiting process, their temporary licenses are non-existent, and you can call three times and get three different answers.
