Transferring Devices !

you have a hoyer lift, a stand up lift and a flat lift. when transferring A RESIDENT from bed to wheel chair or wheel chair to bed what scares you the most when transfferring?

When using a hoyer and you dont have the pad that goes from head to thigh, just the one that wraps around the legs and it looks like the resident is going to fall through. I had to use one of those when I first started. Scarred me to death that the resident could fall out but I know that if used right it wouldn't but it still looks bad.

What scares me the most? Someone falling.

The battery dieing (either hoyer or stand lifts) when the pt is in the air. This absolutely sucks!!!

I've had an old chain hoyer tip over on me once with the patient in it. It was caught under the bed frame. I pulled really hard thinking it would not come out so easy, but it came right out. Fortunately I got the lift upright before it went all the way down. I pulled a muscle but the patient was not hurt. He just had the ride of his life!!!!!!

What scares me most is the person falling, whether just assisting a person or operating a lift.

I've used a Hoyer and a sit-to-stand lift and I get nervous using both. With the Hoyer, I'm always afraid the sling isn't underneath the person completely. When I use the sit-to-stand I'm worried about the person losing their grip on the handles and the Velcro safety belt that wraps around their waist popping off.

I'm just a nervous wreck, in general, I guess.

you know what scares me the most is when the hoyer lift is not next to the bed when lifting a resident from the wheel chair or chair.especially if the pads not under they well enough.
