Hi everyone, first post here, feel free to move it if I'm in the wrong place. Great site!
I'm in the Tampa area. I'm wrapping up an LPN program in 2 weeks (woo hoo!) and looking to bridge to my RN, preferably as soon as I can. I need to take A&P I/II, and Micro before I can apply. Have looked at HCC since it's closer for me, but since they only admit one transition class per year, by the time I finish my last pre-req's I'll be looking at not starting til May 2011. With SPC starting a bridge class each term I could (hopefully) start a lot quicker. My concern is this. SPC requires MCB 2010 and BSC 2085/2086. HCC requires MCB 1000 and BSC 1085/1086. Both schools call both courses "Microbiology" and "A&P I/II." HCC does NOT offer MCB 2010 or BSC 2085/2086. HCC's MCB and BSC are both prereqs for their nursing program so what I'm wondering is, is it the same course? I've contacted SPC and haven't had much luck, they just tell me to go such and such a link and look at the requirements. Gee, thanks. Has anyone here gone through this? I've registered for MCB 1000 for the summer A session and now I'm wondering if I should drop it and just finish my prereqs at SPC. Should I just wait and take MCB 2010 at SPC? Some insight would be much appreciated.

I am not familiar with SPC; however, I have been looking at different LPN-RN bridge programs as well. Usually there is an academic advisor that you can contact. This person should be able to tell you if your courses would transfer. I've been told my several colleges to just apply and they will tell you what else is needed. In most cases, A&P I/II and MCB will transfer from one school to another.
Sorry I can't be more helpful. Good luck getting into the program and congrats on finishing the LPN program!!

I'm at SPC and actually went to HCC years ago - SPC just switched the numbers for A&P, they used to be what HCC has as listed. I'm pretty sure that the credits will transfer over, but I would call SPC or go to their website and contact an e-advisor to find out.

ya ap used to be bsc 1085 and 1086, now it's 2085 and 2086.
the counselors will know, but why not just take it at spc if that's where u will be taking your transitional program?
plus u can sign up for MICRO right now for summer courses and it's easier in the summer! if you take ****** you'll be in my class :)

I've heard great things about the SPC program, but if they somehow feel they are "above" a 1000 numbering for an identical course, i'd be looking elsewhere. That to me simply wreeks arrogance on the schools part. OK i'm off my soapbox now. Where are you doing your LPN?

Hi,
I just submitted my application to SPC for the August LPN to RN evening program. I am waiting to hear from them.
Just finished A & P II lecture and lab (BSC 1086 and 1086L) in the Spring semester at HCC and it transferred/posted as BSC 2086 and 2086L at SPC. I also went back and looked at A & P I which I also took at HCC and it posted as BSC 2085 and 2085L. Hope this helps.
I took Microbiology at USF and it is numbered in the 2000.
Good luck.

hey "gtlpn2rn", i got my acceptance letter a couple of weeks ago for spc's lpn to rn evening program for august 09. it didn't even take two full weeks to hear back after i applied, so hopefully you'll hear back quickly! i don't know when the orientation is going to be yet. i emailed one of the advisors about 10 days ago, and she said we will register for the classes at orientation, and the letter detailing orientation date and time would be going out in the mail soon. i am going crazy wanting to know when it is going to be. i am going to be out of town for 2 weeks the beginning of august, and i am freaking out at the thought of orientation being scheduled during that time!
good luck, and let us know when you hear back!! hopefully we'll be in the same class!
Congrats Stacey. I got my acceptance today from Erwins LPN program for March '10. Keep us posted on your progress. SPC is my 1st choice when i'm ready to bridge over in '11.

thanks stacey2275. i am going crazy waiting to hear if i got into spc's lpn to rn evening program for august 09. my application went in at the end of may because i was waiting for my spring classes to post. it is going on 3 weeks since i turned in my application. also my lpn license expires on 7/31/09. i submitted my current license copy and as soon as my license renewal posted on the doh license verification website i printed it and faxed it to spc records. i even called to make sure they got it and it got added to my application. i told them as soon as i get the card i will fax it. poor mailman....i have been chasing him daily
it is killing me waiting for my renewed lpn license and a letter or something from spc.
i was told by one of the advisors that they have 36 slots for that class so hopefully i got one of the slots too and we'll be in the same class. i will let you know when i hear something. where do you live? i live in tampa near lutz.
tpanative - congrats on your acceptance to erwin. you'll think it is taking forever to finish but the year will fly by before you know it. just make sure that you study and practice your pharmacology math because that is where most people are cut. i attended erwin many moooooooooons ago so the instructors have all changed.

Congrats Tpanative.. I am accepted in the same Erwin class of March 10. I'm excited.
Also, I'm curious about these bridge programs.

Still have not heard anything from SPC regarding my application. It is 3 weeks now. Finally, I got my renewed LPN license card in the mail. Gees, they are slow on getting the license renewals out.
The waiting is killing me.
"gtlpn2rn" I still haven't received the orientation information letter... Naturally I keep worrying that it got lost in the mail! I hate to keep emailing and calling them. Feel like I am harassing them! Sorry I didn't reply back to you sooner, I just read your post. I live in Seminole, about 10 mins from the HEC campus.
I can't stand the waiting! I am going to give the mail carrier a heart attack one of these days. Everytime I hear the clink of the lid, I whip the door open to check. It's awful! If you've heard anything yet, let me know!
