Transferring credits from Hillsborough Community College to St. Pete College

Hi everyone, first post here, feel free to move it if I'm in the wrong place. Great site!

I'm in the Tampa area. I'm wrapping up an LPN program in 2 weeks (woo hoo!) and looking to bridge to my RN, preferably as soon as I can. I need to take A&P I/II, and Micro before I can apply. Have looked at HCC since it's closer for me, but since they only admit one transition class per year, by the time I finish my last pre-req's I'll be looking at not starting til May 2011. With SPC starting a bridge class each term I could (hopefully) start a lot quicker. My concern is this. SPC requires MCB 2010 and BSC 2085/2086. HCC requires MCB 1000 and BSC 1085/1086. Both schools call both courses "Microbiology" and "A&P I/II." HCC does NOT offer MCB 2010 or BSC 2085/2086. HCC's MCB and BSC are both prereqs for their nursing program so what I'm wondering is, is it the same course? I've contacted SPC and haven't had much luck, they just tell me to go such and such a link and look at the requirements. Gee, thanks. Has anyone here gone through this? I've registered for MCB 1000 for the summer A session and now I'm wondering if I should drop it and just finish my prereqs at SPC. Should I just wait and take MCB 2010 at SPC? Some insight would be much appreciated.

"gtlpn2rn" I got your p.m. but it says I am not allowed to send them, so I couldn't respond. As far as my pre-reqs, I only had speech left at the time I applied, but I applied after the deadline too, so it's possible they are just swamped getting all the loose ends tied up. My only contact there so far has been the advisor "D" as well, and I was pretty much told the same thing you were. They must get so many calls, questions, and emails, it's probably a standard response from them.

It's driving me just as nuts, but I think we are pretty much stuck waiting to hear. I just am really hoping they don'thave the orientation scheduled during the time I am away. If I at least knew the date they were having it, I could relax! Hope you hear something soon, I am keeping my fingers crossed for ya!

Advisor "D" told me that there is no deadline for the LPN to RN program (day or evening). I was told it is on a first come first serve basis. You were told that there was a deadline?

I have not heard anything yet. Have not even received an acceptance letter yet for the LPN to RN evening program. I too have been chasing the mailman. Pretty soon he is going to think I am stalking him.

Advisor "D" told me that they were told by someone in the Nursing program that more letters were being mailed out on Monday. But did not know for which nursing programs the letters are for. I would think it would be for all of them. Classes start the last week of August so you would think that they would be making their final choices. Advisor "D" also told me to hold 7/23 and 8/11. As those are possible orientation dates. Again don't know what programs.

I can't standing waiting. Poor mailman. Hopefully I will know something by Tuesday or Wednesday.

Oh god I hope the evening program orientation is 7/23 or I am screwed. I will be away 8/11, and the orientation is mandatory as that is when you register, so I would end up having to forfeit my spot.

On the application packet it stated that the deadline for the evening august start was March 31, 2009. I didn't get my application faxed to them til May 12, when the spring semester ended and grades posted. I had to wait til my grades for the A&P II (lab & lecture) posted before I could apply. It only took a couple of weeks for them to approve it. I got my acceptance letter May 23. Maybe not that many people had applied by that point. I know when I've gone to the last couple of information sessions on the programs, there was only one other LPN looking to get in aside of myself. I think the competition for spots is a lot higher in the RN-ASN than it is for LPN-to-RN, but without the selective admission rules, it is a lot easier to be accepted into the LPN-to RN.

You got a lot more information then I did from the advisor. I'm glad you got the tentative dates, so I can at least hope for 7/23, now. Keep me posted if you get anything, & I'll do the same! Keep thinking positive!!

Where did you get the application packet? I downloaded my LPN to RN evening program application off the SPC website and there was no deadline listed. When were the information sessions? I did not see that on their website. Advisor "D" told me that the LPN to RN program application acceptance was on a first come first serve basis. Advisor "D" stated that those application deadlines did not apply to the LPN to RN program. I am going to be extremely mad if it does.

I looked at the downloadable SPC applications online and the Nursing application with all the deadlines is for the selected admissions process which is for the regular program. It specifically states not for the LPN to RN transitional program. I am going to be extremely mad if those deadlines do apply and they are just lying.

I still am wondering about the information sessions. I did not see that online anywhere or know about them. Advisor "D" said nothing about information sessions. I will let you know if I hear anything.

They handed out the information packets at the information sessions. They held a few of them over the last yr, I received a notice in the mail that they would be held on certain dates and times at the different campuses. It was very informal, I went to the Seminole Campus for both of them, and I think the person hosting it was just a general advisor from HEC, not just for nursing, because she was there to address all the Health Programs. I was also told at the information session that the spots were "first come first serve" for the LPN to RN, that if you applied and had the minimum requirements met, that you were in. I wouldn't worry about the deadline, mine was in long after that and I thought for sure I'd be passed up until the next start, so I was shocked to get the acceptance letter.

Hopefully you'll get something in the mail from this next batch that advisor "D" told you was going out on Monday...

This is so frustrating, I feel like my life revolves around the mail arrival! I have even been skipping going out to lunch to run home and check my mail box!

Sure hope that we both get something in the mail tomorrow. I live in Tampa in the Carrolllwood/Lutz area so it is easy for me to hop over to Pinellas County via the Veterans Expressway.

I have been running through a food drive-thru somewhere for lunch everytime I heard letters might be arriving just to go home and check the mail. I usually make my lunch to save $.

I know my mailman thinks I am crazy....Will probably get a letter from the Postmaster stating to quit bothering the mailman. Will let you know if I get anything in the mail.

Can't stand waiting.

Just got an update from the advisor, more letters are going out tomorrow. And she confirmed the dates and time for me.

I went over to SPC today and spoke with advisor "D" to find out what was going on with my application because I had not heard anything or received any letters in the mail yet. Advisor "D" and the other advisors were surprised when looking at my record in their computer systems because my application was submitted along with CPR card and LPN License. Also the grades from my spring classes had posted. Well to make a long story short.... What they told me had happened and what I saw in their computer system was that when whomever reviews applications went in to review my classes against my application-my spring classes had not posted, so I was put into some kind of tickler file to check my record at a later date to see if the classes had posted. Apparently my classes had been posted in one part of their system when HCC sent the transcript but someone did not update another part of their system that is used to review with the application. The advisors apologized and issued my acceptance letter for the August LPN to RN evening program when I was there and had me sign the letter of intent. FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I knew there was something wrong with my transcripts. That is the reason I went over to talk to them again.

We will probably be in the same class.

The advisors told me the same thing as you that more letters are going out tomorrow. Wonder if that means orientation packets too. I have to wait and see if I have to drive over and pick the orientation packet up too since I am getting everything at the last minute. They stated that the orientation dates are 7/23 @ 3 p.m. and 8/11 (@ 9 a.m. I think).

Thanks for keeping your fingers and toes crossed for me. If I get my orientation packet I will probably go to the 7/23. I will keep you posted.

CONGRATULATIONS!! That is so awesome that you were able to get everything straightened out! That is the exact same thing she told me as far as the dates and times go. I was so relieved when she said 7/23, and that 8/11 was for the late admits and ones who couldn't make the 7/23. I was starting to think ahead that if I missed the orientation while I was away I was going to have to reapply for spring, and I was getting really bummed!

I will definitely be attending the 7/23, no matter what! Hopefully we will be in the same class, it always helps to have someone you "know", even if it is justfrom this blog!

Again, congratulations and now we can both have a wonderful day!

Hi Gina,

just wanted to let you know, my packet arrived today!! Let me know if you got yours.
