Transfer from one community college program directly into another?

is anyone familar with transferring straight into a nursing program from one community college directly into another in a different state. i met someone last semester who mentioned she had already started the program in her home state when her husband's job required them to move elsewhere. she was able to transfer straight into the program where they moved and was considered a higher priority applicant. although, she still had to take the current college requirements (which they all seem to have...:selfbonk: ) she got in before those who have been waiting to get accepted and who are current residents. anybody else hear of this type of situation? :innerconf

Be careful...I know the program at my current school and the program at my last school are very different, and they are in 2 diferent states. Different prereqs even! Call an advisor at the school your considering and see what they say, that's the only way you'll know. Good Luck!!!!

Be very careful, your friend may have just gotten lucky. With my husband in the military and the threat of frequent moves, I researched the transfer angle pretty well, and the info I got from most nursing schools (the ones I was looking at anyway) is that while content may be similar across the board, the timeline in which that info is taught varies so widely that I would be lucky if even the first semester (fundementals of nursing) transferred.

I had completed my pre-reqs in NC and was accepted into the NS program starting in Aug '05 and my husband came down on orders for MO June '05, so I declined the seat and we moved. Thank goodness, my new school accepted all my pre-req's, but they wouldn't have taken even the first semester of NS from NC.

Research and clarify repeatedly, if you are truely thinking about switching schools in the middle of the program. As for me, I have another year of school left and my husband is due to come down on orders again in a couple of months. I told him that there was no way I was moving until I graduated, so if he had to PCS, the kids and I would see him next summer after I graduated from NS :lol2: . I've worked too hard to loose the progress I've made so far in getting my nursing degree.

Good luck, I hope things work out for your situation.

It didnt work for me and I had to move back to my old state--too many different pre-reqs (my A&P wasnt equal to THEIR A&P, etc, etc) and I was going to have to wait two years after finishing the new pre-reqs just like everyone else. Plus they wouldn't take my fundamentals credits. It sucked (read my old posts for more). Make sure you get everything in writing and know all the ins and outs before you move.

I had discussed a transfer with an out-of-state school and was told they would most likely take me with no issues through second semester....that was based on my prereqs and the course outline for our first two semesters of NS.....I never had to pursue this, however...

I would think the most prudent thing would be to talk to the schools where one might think a transfer will be needed....each college/university has its own standards, so I think all you'll get here are assumptions on could occur, but not the bottom line for each individual situation....
