transfer license to a state

Hi!

I'm Roselle from the Philippines and my license in the sate of Vermont is to expire this March. I still don't have an employer and currently I'm having my experience here in our country. I want to ask how I can transfer my license to a state because I believe that the renewal of license needs a huge amount of money than to transfer license to a state. Thank you very much!

It would probably be cheaper to renew your license in Vermont rather than applying for a license in another state by endorsement (the fee varies depending on which state) and verifying your VT license through Nursys ($30 fee).

I'm sure if you research many different states you may be able to find some savings if you really wanted to do that, but it isn't going to be a huge amount.

Renewal, in general, is cheaper!

Licensing by Endorsement will be depended on which state you are talking about!

For example: Florida is $230+(including background check), not including 2 hours mandatory on-line course ($20 from Nursing Spectrum), and verification fee is not included ($20 in New York), plus fingerprinting fees ($15 for one print if it is done by NY Police Department and 2 prints = $16 ).

California: Both permanent and temp license--$131 including background check.

Without the temp license: $101.

There will be additional charges for the following:

Fingerprinting fees, school transcript (if not educated in America, you will need a translator and you have to pay him) and verification fee.

For all other states, you have to google them!

i want to ask the appropriate thing to do with here... I pass the NCLEX at the state of California, i only receive a pass letter. Im worried that I cannot have a SSN, Im still at the Philippines and it will expire soon. i do not want to take the exam again.. what shall I do????

I have heard that this pass letter can be transform into permanent and unrestricted license in Arkansas? is it true? Please help help!!!

Yeah, can't forget all those extra charges for states that may require extra classes or fingerprints or both! I got my license in WA by endorsement and I had to pay $90 for my license, which is only good through August (renewed annually on Bday), $30 for a 7hr HIV/AIDS course, and $25 to NV BON for license verification for a total of $145. If I stayed in NV, I would have had to pay $100 for a 2 year renewal and that's it.

Definitely cheaper to renew license instead of applying to another state.

You need to apply to another state and go through license by exam and arrange with Ca to forward your results. There is much already written in the international forum suggest a good read. If it is going to expire soon either ask Ca for a 12 month extension or apply soon but remember you will more than likely have to meet state requirements which may mean CES or other type of evaluation of your training

You may want to go to California Forum!

Look at "Wishing to work in California, from another state.." It is right on the top! One of the commentators stated there might be a problem without the SS#! As whether you have to retake the exam or not, I don't know the answer! Hopefully, someone knows the answer and keep you informed!

And if you look at one of the stickies at the top of the CA forum, it states for the nurse to use the International Forum if they are not trained in the US and do not have a visa for the US.

CA will not issue a permanent license without the SSN#, only a temporary license that is valid for six months. They also do not keep a file open for more than three years if a SSN# is not obtained during that time, then all is discarded and the nurse starts over again.

The cost to renew in a state is always going to be cheaper than starting the endorsement process for any other state. You also made mention of Florida, they will no longer permit a foreign nurse to endorse there that does not have at least two years of work experience in the US as well first.

Things are considerably different in the US in terms of licensure if one has graduated out of the country. Additional requirements need to be met for licensure.

NCLEX exam is national, the results of it are valid in all 50 states as well as US territories. But then one needs to meet the licensing requirements for the new state, it is not automatic that training that is okay for one state will be accepted by all of the others.
