TPAPN- Nurse Recovery Meetings

Nurses Recovery

Hi everyone,

I am a nurse in recovery in the DFW area, Texas. I am not in TPAPN as I never got caught and do not plan on returning to work in the ER. But I do plan on going back to work at a treatment facility, detox center or some sort of addiction/recovery nursing at some point. I have been trying to find a meeting for recovering nurses/healthcare providers around Dallas Ft. Worth area with no luck. I know there have to be meetings and am wondering since I am not in TPAPN maybe that's why I don't know about them. Would I be welcome at these meetings if I am not in TPAPN? Would I be reported to TPAPN by others or facilitators of the meeting by my being there and opening up that I am in recovery from addiction?

Any information you guys have would help me tremendously. Thank you so much!

You might get better information if you post this in the Recovery forum.

You will be hard pressed to find healthcare only meetings in DFW. There are plenty of good ones around tho. PM me for more info on that. DO NOT REPORT YOURSELF TO TPAPN if you don't have to. If you had a problem and have fixed it than there are no worries. Nobody will report you if they see you in a mtg. Even if they do there is nothing TPAPN can do.

I'm in the same boat and having a hard time finding support groups for nurses in recovery. I am in the process of starting TPAPN and 90 meetings in 90 days and would like to find a support group as well. I heard about a group in Arlington but can not find any info on it. Maybe we need to start our own ;)

My experience is that it isn't the specific job, but me as a person- I had better luck seeing a counselor on an individual basis- 12 step meetings are effective for some though....

I would most definitely not go back to a situation where I would have access to drugs- there is a lot of work you need to do before being in that situation again.

Hi there! Thanks for your reply. I would love to hear more about good meetings in DFW area. I don't know how to PM but I will try. Could you PM me?

Thanks again!

Hi Justme_RN! Thanks for your reply. I would love to grab coffee or something sometime and talk about our experiences, if you are in the DFW area. And I honestly have thought a lot about starting my own nursing recovery group, however I'm not sure how that would work since I am not currently in TPAPN. I am going to try and PM you, if I can figure out how to do that. And then maybe we can chat further and connect about all this, and maybe hit some meetings together. = )

Lol...new here too. Not sure how to PM yet either but I will try. I would love to get together! im not sure how 'formal' a recovery group needs to be. Isn't it just a bunch of people with the same experiences getting together to discuss those experiences? We can do that :)

Ahh...you can't PM unless you've posted 15 topics.
