Toughest Block in MCC system?

Whatever block that you're currently in!

I didn't go to MCC, but for down here, the toughest semesters were the first and the last. The first because people had to learn a lot of new ways to learn info, new ways to answer questions on test, clinicals were new, everything was new.

The last semester because it had the hardest information, and your final preceptorship.

My opinion is block 2. I'm currently in block 3 so can't talk about block 4 (thanks for the warning though....) Block 1 was easy if you paid attention, had good study habits and had a firm understanding of A&P and patho. Block 2 got a lot harder than 1 and 3 seems to be re-hashing block 2 stuff - with psych thrown in.....just to make US crazy.

I'm also assuming when you ask about MCC you mean the community colleges in general.....

Hmmm...let's see. I agree with cardiacRN2006 that Block 1 was difficult because you had to study, answer questions the "nursing" way, everything is just new. I was used to studying for a test the night before and acing it, but then I got a smack in the face when I tried that in Block 1. Block 2- I remember Pharm. being hard because they give you TONS of meds to memorize. Block 3 was breezy, psych. is an easy ride, and M/S wasn't too bad. Block 4 is fast and the furious, it's the first time I've felt truly challenged in a long time, but it's definitely the block where the little light bulb turns on. Everything is finally falling together! Overall, hardest block, I would give it to 4, it's very fast paced, busy, and complex. Hope that helps. Good luck!

Uggghhhh....you're scaring me. I'm heading into block 4 in August to finish up around Christmastime. I guess my priority this summer is to get all my Christmas shopping done because it sounds like I'm going to be doing little else but nursing school :eek:

I'm in Block 3. It has been the most challenging so far because of the amount of time it has required. Block I was super easy - as long as you learn to choose the "nursing" answer in the NCLEX type questions. People said Block II was tough - but I thought it was fair and not too bad. Something about Block III, though, is a bit tougher. Requires more studying and lots more clinical time. I'm done by the fall, though.

I'm currently in blk 4 and I think so far this is the hardest. Of course, I went and had a baby 3 weeks ago so that added enormous amounts of craziness to the whole thing.

I thought blks 1 and 2 were quite easy... 3 and 4 were harder, IMO.

One thing I've found that continuously helps throughout, is to have nclex books and always do practice questions for whatever system you are studying.

Well, I definitely agree with Phoenix Girl...using your NCLEX_RN review books will help you with the tests. Also if you have some type of Prioritization/Delegation/Assignment book, it has lots of practice tests that help with role development. Don't worry too much, just maintain good study habits, try not to "check out" at clinicals, so that you can make the classroom to clinical connection, and get support from classmates. This is what has worked for me...it won't hurt too much! It's a quick and painless torture. Hehehe.

I have to agree...whatever block your currently in. However, the toughest blocks for me and the rest of my fellow classmates were blocks 2 and 4. Im in the accelerated program and everything moves very fast. We learn one thing...then lose it when we learn another!

My final, final exam is tomorrow and then all I have is precetorship and graduation!

My reccomendations are to remember ABC's, the nursing process, Maslow's and Erickson's when testing and you should do fine!

Any advice on block 4? I have heard it's a lot of cardiac and emergency medicine.

Block 1 has been easier than I thought it would be. Reminds me of a CNA or EMT course so far. IMO, you just really need to learn how to answer questions the nursing/NCLEX way. That is the most important skill to master in block 1 (in addition to learning the material itself, of course). :)
