how tough is it taking AP2 and micro bio in summer?

Published

ok so my plan is to take microbio, and ap2 in the summer

ill be taking ap2 the first quarter, then microbio the 2nd quarter (each will be 5 weeks) but for about 2 weeks, these two classes will overlap, and i will take them both at the same time. I want to know how tough this will be so i can be mentally prepared.

tips, and hints in these two subjects are helpful!

p.s: if i get good grades in these 2 classes in the summer, i get into the nursing program next fall!!!!! wish me luck!!!

I think you are worried about the wrong thing. But just ask that guy at the top of the Pre-Nursing Student Forum permanent Net Test Guide sticky. He took the whole nursing prereqs in about 6 months or less at a private school I think.

You can do it! I took A&P I and Microbiology together last summer and got As in both, while working full-time. The secret to my success? I studied on lunch breaks, I studied on the treadmill and the stairmaster at the gym, I went to Panera or Starbucks after work and studied, and I studied on the weekends. You guessed it, I had no social life! Thank God my friends are supportive and understanding! But it was completely worth it. However, I also always slept at least 7 hours a night, watched the DVR to catch up on my shows when I needed a break, and ate healthy. (I did the things I personally needed to feel balanced.)

You have to find a good balance for yourself. I just finished A&P II and found this course easier than A&P I since I knew what I was in for.

Good luck nneokill175! We all have our own strategies that work best for ourselves!

I took AP2 in the summer and anything that you take that is hard it's always easier in the summer because they only make you learn what you need to know...at least that's how it where I go. I'm taking Micro, Developmental Psych, and Intro to New Testament (have to have the last one because of where I got in at; now I'm applying to get into the nursing program there)

You got it no social life...all I do is work and study! It will pay off in the end...and I agree AP2 was easier; I think it all comes together and you're not lost like you were in AP1.

thanks for EVERYONES support. you guys are all so tough, i just hope i can do it. i mean balancing work, study, break time, and sleeps. and you guys even worry about eating right and going to the gym at the same time also?! im going to try my hardest to get As in my summer classes!!!! you guys really helped me out, thanks a lot!!!

I know the school I go to crams 16 wks of A&P into a 6 week summer course. A lot of students drop out. I'm sure some of them were able to get an A but you won't have a social life for 6 weeks. I think you should see if you can get an old syllabus of the class you're going to take or start learning the bones and muscles now. It's only December, so you'll have plenty of time to learn the bones and muscles and that'll be 2 less things for you to worry about. From what I've been told there's some overlap in material in A&P1 and Micro (I haven't taken Micro yet, so I don't know for sure.) Good luck!

It is very doable, there are great websites were you can read and get sorta of prepared for microbiology! and a&p II is cont.. of 1!

I took AP2 over the summer and it was basically like having a full-time job. We were in class for 5 hours a day, 4 days a week...and all labs had to be done on our own time (the computer lab simulations). I had about 2-3 hours of homework every evening...and studying on top of it...plus studying all weekend. I would estimate I spent about 40 hours a week on class-time and study-time combined. A lot of people dropped, but I approached it like my job for the summer and did great...it was, however, not at all easy. Most people that stuck it out didn't have jobs either...and we didn't get a "break" because it was summer school...we covered all the content...I filled a 1.5 inch binder for EACH UNIT! So yeah...it was intense. I want to say it was 6 or 8 weeks...something hellish like that. Best of luck to you...
