I'm over the Medicare hall, and we have a lot of new residents here for rehab with broken hips, knees, etc. here for PT/OT. Lots of pain meds. What amazes me is why most of these people don't moan and groan during the day for pain meds....they wait until I arrive at 10:45 and then they all start in on the call lights, requesting pain pills. True, they keep me running up and down the halls all night!

That's why I prefer regularly scheduled pain medication for adequate pain management....eliminates some of the running around involved with giving prns and gives more effective pain relief!:)

We just got a new MD at our facility, so things are changing. At present, we are giving a lot of

  1. Senna
  2. Tylenol
  3. Metoprolol
  4. Aspirin
  5. Depakote.

By comparison, our facility really skimps on behavioral medications.:chuckle Of course, we use them, but not in my top 5. (Depakote the exception).

Risperdal
