Nursing License number fraud question
You know this person? I read the WAC's regarding this and it is punishable by law (I think it said fine and/or time) for mis-representing oneself as an RN...your situation is even worse, she stole your license! THAT IS FRAUD!!!!

Just a Vent About My Evening Yesterday...
Thank you all so much for the support. The whole situation is just so frustrating. The CNA's at my facility do work very hard and are very good (for the most part) It seems to be these two girls (both very young) that are constantly on their cell phones, going into Res rms with their Starbucks and Slurpees...I actually walked into a rm to do a bolus PT feed and the same CNA was toileting the roommate with a Frappuccino in her hand. A) That is just gross B) How totally unprofessional. I feel that I have been "nice" up until now with "reminders" and "warnings", but if there are any backlashes on me for this injury, it is going higher! medsurgnurse....good advice, thanks! I will write everything down and get those copies of assignments and TRY to get statements. I failed, purposely, to say in my original post that the other nurse is in her 70's and most of the time can't hear D/T the squelching from her hearing aids...That comes strait from her own mouth, not mine. I didn't want to sound like I think her age has any baring on the situation. Anyway, thanks again!

Anyone a CNA/nursing assistant b4 an LPN?
I was a CNA first and it was really good experience for me. We don't have the CNA II here, but that sounds awesome! I say GO FOR IT!!! The more you can do and get more comfortable with, the better. You'll be that much more ready. The things on your list are things I do as a nurse everyday! Good luck and go for it! Danielle

Just a Vent About My Evening Yesterday...
It was one of those days...I came on at 1400 and by 1500 I was filling out 2 incident reports for things that happened on days, but only brought to attention after change of shift...no big deal. Then at about 1630 I'm in the middle of my med pass when I go into a Res.' room and he (a 190# dead wt. man) was sliding out of his w/c. 1 more second and he would have been on the floor. I was able to stabilize his wt. and lock the w/c with the other hand. His foot was pressing against the wall which was helping, but he had foot rests on his w/c so if I let him go, he would have been ontop of the footrests, mashed against the wall. So basically I was holding him with one arm under his knees and the other around his back and totally unable to pull him up in the chair. Now, this whole time his motion alarm is going off and NOONE is coming. I was yelling "I need hep in 109!!!" still NOONE came. This went on for nearly 10 mins. The other nursewho has the other half of my hall finally comes mozying on by and I yell her name. She comes in, I tell her what I want her to do and we STILL can't get him in the chair. I tell her to go get help so she leaves, comes back with 3 CNA's and the RCM. We got him back in the chair, I look down and mt arm that was around his back is COVERED in BM which I later found out was up to his neck. SOOOOO...at this point my back is killing me and progressively getting worse all night. The other nurse says...and I quote..."Well I heard someone yelling for help but I just thought it was one of the Residents" So why the _ell didn't she go help?????It could've been someone on the floor, hurt, etc...Then the 2 CNA's that were working my hall say "We were sitting at the desk and we never heard you" These are the same 2 young ladies that I had just got 2 Res. complaints about them each being "Too busy on their cell phones " while giving care. I have talked to each of them before as they are always on their phones in Res. rms, the feeder dining rm, etc...After work I went to the ER as I couldn't turn my head by midnight and was seen and in and out and at the pharmacy and home in an hour. They made me file L&I at the ER...I wanted to use my ins, but they said that was illegal. The Doc told me to stay home for 2 days. I called in when I got home last night. If they give me ANY trouble at work for filing a claim, or taking time off, I don't know what I'm going to do. Sorry so long, thanks for listening. And, of course, today is much worse, just like the ER doc said it would be! Danielle

Nursing Home Nurses: How many patients are you respsible for?
ANNDOODLE...LOL!!!! Yes, come work with me! I am an LPN in Washington state Tacoma/Seattle area. I have worked acute care for 8 yrs and just started in LTC. It sounds like, from all the other posts, that I have a pretty good thing going here. I really do like where I work. I have always worked L&D in the past and made almost 20% less than I do at my facility! You SHOULD move here! Danielle

Nursing Home Nurses: How many patients are you respsible for?
I have 24-26 Residents-I pass meds, do treatments, chart, medicare charting on 12 of the 24-26 act as 1 of 2 supervisors, answer phones, answer fax labs and DO's that come in on my shift (2-10p, I've never left before 2330, though) I have 3 tube feeders, 2 of whom are bolus fed twice on my shift. We have no Charge nurse and the house receptionist goes home at 1700. I make $22/hr so I figure I make $1 /hr for each resident I care for (that's supposed to be funny) and I love every minute of it. I worked L&D at a large hospital and made $15/hr for 8yrs. I love LTC. Danielle

Question about inmates
I posted a few days ago, but just so happened that I received the new Nursing Commission book from the BON in my state today and was thumbing through it when I came accross the laws that pertain to this very issue. It was VERY CLAER regarding the amount of time a nurse must wait. I won't go into my states details as there's a 1 in 50 chance that you don't live here. It was different for different situation, pt. in office, hospital vs. mental health, substance abuse (differnet waiting periods) I would refer the laws from your BON. Danielle

Question about inmates
I wish I could give you advice on your question, but I have no idea what the rules are. I had a pt that I got kind of attatched to while she was on the antepartum unit for 6 wks, who wanted to exchange #'s and get together after her D/C, but I was uncomfortable with doing that. Something in the back of my mind (I think I remember something from nursing school) was telling me it was a no-no. So I didn't. My biggest concern, however is for you. I guess I just don't understand-why this guy? If you want to end your marriage, so be it. But from someone who's been there, don't do it over another guy. End your marriage (not that I'm telling you to), have some time to yourself and then find someone wonderful. This man may be a great guy, but there are so many great guys out there who haven't been in prison. I am not judging him, God knows I have made mistakes in my past, but something tells me that you have so much to offer (after all, you're a nurse and we are pretty COOL people) SOMEONE, SOMEDAY. Make your decision based on what you know, not your heart. There are situations that require making decisions from the heart, but this may not be one of them. Life is hard enough, but if you do decide to have a relationship with this man, people are going to be cruell and judgemental when/if they find out his past...just be prepared for tough times. Best of luck to you in whatever you decide. Danielle

Do hospitals hire LVN's in OB-GYN?
I actually live in the Seattle/Tacoma area also and worked in L&D for 7 years. I left that hospital a year ago and went to another local hospital and was hired in L&D there. I have also worked Post Partum (called Mother Baby Unit at both of the hospitals I worked at) At the first hospital, they were totally seperate depts., seperate managers, seperate staff, etc. We also had a Perinatal Special Care Unit (AKA Antepartum) where I also worked (Floated, as did everyone). At the second hospital, they were the same dept (sort of) same manager. They each had thier own staff, but all L&D nurses had to float at one time or another. As for the specifics on what we did...we scrubbed on all c-sections, PPTL's, and whatever else they threw in the mix (D&C's, etc...), we were the "second pair of hands" at deliveries (unless NICU or SCN needed) meaning we took care of baby from birth thru initial recovery. We did initial care, wts & measures, meds, blood sugar protocol prn, went in and did all the checks, etc. We also had 3 triage rms and, WITH RN charge back-up, did triage if that was assignment for that day, we admitted pts, admitted scheduled c-s pts, started IV, shaved, signed consents with pt., and right before scheduled time, handed them over to the circulator. We admitted and cared for early labor pts and when 4cm, turned over to RN (again, always with RN backup) We took care of Cytotec inductions until they were 4 cm (RN back-up). We did alot of recovery, after an RN did the 1st check. Anyway, we did alot more, but this is getting long. Good luck in your career, stay motivated to do what you love! Also,in Sundays paper, both hospital were hiring LPN's in L&D, I guess it just depends on what state you live in.

Anyone work at Moffitt Cancer Center in, Tampa, Fl?
I just want to say THANK YOU for all you do! My Dad was at Moffitt for a month recently and had wonderful care. I lost my mom 17 yrs ago to Breast Cancer, I was a teenager, and we lived in southern Ca at the time. Totally different experiece!!!!! Anyway, I know Moffitt is a big place, but thanks to all the nurses who take care of people when they need it most. I have always worked in L&D. Would love to work in Oncology, but am afraid that I have too many memories from my mom, would be too emotional. Keep up the GREAT WORK!!!! Danielle

Waiting, waiting, waiting............
I am so lost! If you check my post "this will make me sound so dumb...." I have an acct from when Excelsior was Regents. All of the books and Study guides were included and I paid almost $5000 for the program. Someone suggested I buy study guides (are they no longer included) and above, someone mentioned sending $800. Is that a payment? I am so confussed. Good luck to all of those who are waiting. Stay as motivated as you are today, I wish I had. Danielle
