Took NCLEX Yesterday

Published

I took my NCLEX-RN yesterday and believe it or not; it stopped at 264; have you ever heard of that number? I have a feeling a failed it; do you guys think I should start studying again for my next time or should I wait for the official results to arrive? My State isn't on quick result so I'll have to wait 2 weeks to find out. It's so cruel of them because yesterday I spoke to a lady at the BON and she told me they already had my results (on the same day I took it) but that she couldn't tell me over the phone and that they were mailing it to me within 10 business days. I just know that I failed it; I think the computer was undecided but at 264 it decided that I wasn't doing good enough and shot down. I don't know if I have the strength to do this again; it was a nightmare :-)

Congratulations, hibiscus!!

Nursing28--probably would be a good idea to start or join on a thread on this topic, but I'll try to help with what you've posted:

I took nclex with 265 questions and failed. =( I am in a depression stage. THere were so many peds question and that was my week topic. I used Kaplan along with the ncsbn and still failed while all my other friends pass and did not even study as much as I did. I heard that it depends on your luck. Some may just get infection control only which I think is pretty basic. I don't know what to do. I am using Saunders at the moment. Its hard to tell if the questions are easy cuz I think all the questions were tough. Pls help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The reason you got so many peds questions is because it was your weak area. It wasn't luck of the draw--the test is designed to find where you are incorrectly answering questions, and focus in on that. In that way, it tests your competency in all areas equally. It may have to give you many more questions in an area of weakness until it determines that you either cannot pass based on that weakness or you can (and do) pass because you've gotten past it. Make sense?

As for infection control, it is anything but basic: people who fail may get lots of ones on universal precautions (I know someone in this category); those who pass may get much more complicated ones involving respiratory isolation, active TB, negative air pressure control, when to use droplet vs contact vs airborne precautions. It's the difference between a question being too easy and below passing standard and being quite hard and above passing standard.

And frankly, you would have a very hard time even judging THAT: what's "hard" for one person might just be "easy" for another. And, sometimes, what someone says is "easy" might just be that they TOTALLY misunderstood the question, and got it wrong (all the while being sure they MUST have gotten it right), or got it right by guessing correctly when they didn't know what it WAS asking!

Does that help figure it out a bit?

I still don't have my results. I'm trying to be patient and keep busy. I was reading the posts above and read the one about many Peds questions; I noticed that I had lots of Mental Health and priority questions. Does that mean that mental health was my weakest area? I can't wait to find out the results being good or bad :-)

Generally speaking, yes, if you had "alot" of one type of question (content-wise, not format-wise), then you were likely showing a weakness there. Doesn't mean you didn't surmount it, though! What do you think?
