  1. Congrats and welcome!!!!!!
  2. If you can't go with what has existed for years then you will very likely find the job not worth the emotion you are putting into it within a year or so. If the charge nurse doesn't like you make sure you have a knowledgeable and respected nurse to go to for second opinions on your patients. Even if you know what you are doing saying "I consulted with xxx" will be a great back up when someone disagrees with you. Great advice, I've been there too.
  3. I've had many thank you's and moments that make our insane choice of work worth it, the two that come to mind right now is the 90 year old woman who knitted me the most adorable booties that I still wear and on May 1st (lei day in Hawaii) two women came up to me with a beautiful lei at a crowded concert to thank me for being with their father when he passed, they said they never would forget the care I gave him and them. I didn't and won't forget them either.
  4. Olympia is on the list as is seattle, we'll see if I get the interviews. Olympia would pay alot less BUT I have ohana in port townsend and outside of Ethel so it might be nice as a first time gig. But so would seattle or northern CA. I'm working with a couple of companies, Like both recruiters but I go with the one that gets. Have you made a decision yet?Aloha
  5. try it during a blood transfusion
  6. Two different jokes
  7. Amen windward the only thing worse then hell is Hilo hosp. I just moved back home to the Big islands east side and I have to go travel to maintain my home, cause that place is.. well lets just say We're getting "medivac me" tatooed across my chest. and the Oahu hospitals will pay for a mainland nurse to come work ie. house travel etc. but they won't put me in a hotel even if i pay my own airfare. Go figgah. Still the Islands no ka oi. Aloha
  8. Welcome back. They (the union hospitals are paying in the $40. range) Hope you have family to live with rents/mortgages are amazing and gas $3.30 a gal ($3.41 in Hilo) But Hawaii no ka oi.
  9. Hey windwardOahu nurse Iworked at the one NON union hosp on windward side, never again will I work without a union, actually i think agency is the only way I'd go now.
  10. Wilcox I believe is on strike secondary to nurse:pt. If it's listed for Ewa that would be working at St. Francis hosp, they are transitioning to new owners, the commute to town is harsh. DO NOT COME TO HILO MEDICAL CENTER. Theres nothing wrong with Honolulu, if your not paying rent and your working in town I.E. Queens, Kuakini, etc. I'm getting ready to go to your fair state for my first travel gig. I've lived in Hawaii for 25 years. Oh, be aware we are very cultrally diversified.
  11. Aloha, I'm new to the site. I've lived in HI for 25 years. Just returned to Big island (Volcano)!! I'd love to know where people are working. I'll be travel nursing for three months on the mainland, But would LOVE to come home for extended stays, I'm interested specifically in agency work. Thanks
  12. Like Kscot I don't have a topic but please know that many of us are sending metta. Be safe.
  13. She has got to tell. Her reputation is on the line.
  14. Is she also the manager for ICU, if not go and do what you want to do. One write up five months ago should NOT discourage you. :penguin: :balloons:
