Took NCLEX today....

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Rats, it was harder than I expected. Shut off at 85, but I swear I don't have a clue how I did. Lots of priority questions, but found that some of the answers were from left field. Nothing like we studied in class. I had a 3.9 gpa, so surely.......

Anyway, I'm just looking for pats on the back, right now.

Thanks for listening!!

I found out I passed on Thursday of last week. Tremendous feeling, isn't it?

Mind you, I graduated nursing school back in 1999!!! I was going through a real bitter divorce and the boards had to get put on hold. I worked for a long time as a Med Asst while all the while knowing I graduated PN school. It was very frustrating for me to receive MA wages despite being a PN. But, PN means nothing without the "L" in front of it. I was scared to death that I couldn't possibly learn everything all over again in 2 months worth of studying. But man, it felt good to rise to the challenge and even better to succeed at it.

Congrats to all of you who recently passed! Can't wait to hear about the types of jobs you all are getting!

Cher.

I've worked in Family Practice for 4 years as a PCA with the APN. We have new doc there and they hired another girl from my class, so she works with him, I work with the APN and the other LPN works with another doc. I love it!

I'm sorry to hear you didn't pass the test. There is no secret to the NCLEX. You have to know the basics and build your knowledge on that. I had lots of priority questions, who would you see first, what is most important to do, etc. The med questions were not at all like what we learned in school. I had the advantage of working in family care for 4 yrs, so was familiar with most. Break them down into families, so you can tell what kind of med it is; analgesic, anticholesterol, etc.

I had a Davis review and Saunders review and went through all the questions and built my own with the CD. I read through my ATI books....they are condensed with the most important information.

I know you can do this....don't give up. Have confidence in what you DO know. If you get to a question that stumps you, go with your gut. Don't over analyze.

There are review courses online and I've heard there is one available through allnurses. I'm sure someone here can guide you to it.

So, there is my "mama' advice for the day. Keep your head up!

Did you read the whole saunders or just the 3,000 questions..i did exam cram 400 questions 150 on kaplan strategies...but none of them seem to be helping..i had alot of PRIORITIZATION with 3 good answer and 1 okay one..so i was kinda confuse..and had alot of FOLLOW UP questions. AAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!..what you think about the learning ext by NCSBN? heard alot of good things..think i might take it..so please write back..thanks!

i have to agree with nana, there is no magic bullet to this exam. i would say having a very good foundation of nursing care, infection control, and the good ole abc's airway, breathing, circulation etc, for prioritizing. as for medication, learn the drug endings, they will tell the type of drug it is, and drug classifications. we all know you can do it !!!! best of luck !

Take a deep breath, gino. I went straight to the test sections, answered the questions, looked at the ones I got wrong and why. Don't try to cram too much into your head or memorize too much information. Just build on the basics.

I don't know anything about the NCSBN learning ext., but someone here should. Our school used the ATI to prepare us for testing. ATI has a website, http://www.atitesting.com/onlinestore/default.aspx. You might look on there for some material to help.

I wish I could give you a surefire answer. Remember, you graduated from school. It's in there. You'll find the way.

Thanks sooo much for listening..i decided to take the ncsbn program. Do you know by any chance if i have to start counting 45 days, when i took the nclex or when i got my results..because here in california its 45 days...and i have to reregister and pay $75 then to schedule my test its another $200..so total of $275..jeez...that's alot of money. thanks again..:smilecoffeeIlovecof
