Hi everyone! I took the NCLEX-PN for the first time yesterday, and it stopped at 205 questions max. Unfortunately I did not pass, using the Pearsonvue Trick it let me go to the payment confirmation page within a hour after taking my exam. I plan on re taking it and dedicating myself into more study time with it. I took the Hurst Review before my first attempt, and it has helpful material but for people that have test taking anxiety it's important to relax during the exam as well as knowing your core content. Studying 2-4 hours a day for one month I thought would pay off, but once you start seeing the questions repeating themselves it's a warning sign and then shuts off when you think you're doing good again. Hope anyone can give me insight as to how I should prepare myself for retaking it after I have tried Hurst Review, or study tips! Thanks.
I'm sorry guys.. Never give up keep trying... Let me know if U guys needs help to what book study I took my nclex pn may 25 2012 my comp stopped at 143 the beginning start easy n da end hard I got a lot of select all that apply delegation prioritize which client to see first 2 math... It's hard for me to study to cuz I got a 9 month old daughter I can study when she asleep I study. Here and der besides dat i have a 4 yr old son too... I was too scared to do da trick so I ask someone to do it for me and thy said I got a good pop out it didn't let me go through register again..
Thereshope..I wish you luck! I am getting into a study routine now so that I can focus on it and retake and hopefully pass! I got the same kind of questions as you did when I took it, the prioritizing for diagnosis' never heard of is difficult and especially to remember what they are. I had a ton of pharmacology for brand new meds as well, but used process of elimination and try to figure out the right answer. Best of luck to you!
@ vitalserror sorry to hear you didn't pass. there is still hope. i took mine a couple of time, before i passed last wk 6/11 and got my result 6/13. if you can afford a review class take it. if not try and study on your own with this step hope it helps.
(step 1)i would suggest focusing on the content areas you know that you are weak/struggle/have problems in first. review it as much as you can till you are comfortable with it, then review the areas that you already know next to reinforce the knowlegde. (step 2)get the kaplan strategies nclex pn, practice and review 2012-2013 book from amazon like $22. read it cover to cover 3 times, practicing and understanding how to use each strategy step by step till you can identity which is the strategy to use when answering a particular question. do not cram the steps/ strategy it won't work. after reading all the strategy, now you can attempt the questions on the back and once you answer the question on the back, read the rational for both right and wrong answers trust me it worked for me. i had so much more insight on how i arrived at the right answers and wrong answers.(step3) pda book ( priortorization, delegation, assignment) this book is a must have, practice , apply the kaplan strategy with each question and read the rational for both right and wrong answers. (step 4) exam cram 3rd edition with 1000 questions including the cd. apply the strategy with each question is work, it all about pratice, practice, practice (allen iverson voice lol :rotfl:). with the exam cram start with the study mode to fill it out by doing 50 ques, then 75 ques, then 100 ques applying the strategy and then proceed to the exam mode still using the strategy to answer the questions. (step 5) the last 2wks or wk before your test, practice sata questions through www.nclex.dover.edu/nclexpn3000 click on review - under alternate items only click on nursing topics- click select all - the next part is key practice 30 questions from the alternate items daily and reading the rationals. in that same wk review the allnurses study guide https://allnurses.com/attachment.php?...7&d=1310076980 3 times. review it the day before your exam and on your way to the test center.(step 6) mediating, working out and positive reaffirmation everyday(saying i will pass my nclex exam and believing in what u say). you have come this far and quiting is not an option, success the the only option and it will be yours. think of a time when you were confident or passed an an exam and felt good about yourself and tap into the energy and use it for motivation. last but not the least i dont know your religion, but whatever it is pray and fast it helps. on the day of your exam relax and control your breathing. take breaks if you have to or when its offered. remember that the pain that u feel right now is only temporary and success will eventually take its place which will be permanent. but if you quit now the pain will be forever. there is a video on youtube by eric thomas on success type in "how bad do you want it success" in the search bar on youtube the video comes up and its very motivation/inspirational. so now make a study schedule for youself and stick with it. figure out what study style is best for you and stick with. i know you have heard everyone here say this, "you can do it, just believe, know it and claim it.
Its is very important. I will use this analogy so you can understand. As the Bible is important to christianity, so is pda + kaplan strategies is important to the nclex. As long as you apply the strategy in answering the question that you know and the ones that you have no clue of what it is asking you. Its like New York city without time square it does not make sense or like NBA without bill russell or michael jordan or like having beef patty without the cocoa bread lol :rotfl: it wont make sense. I had to add a little humor in there. So trust what you know already, believe in yourself and review the allnurses study guide.
thank you jagged777 for your advice, i have tried nclex twice now and fail, with 3 kids no time to study but on my second attempt the exam stopped at 85 and i was thinking that yes i pass but when i checked it at pearson vue web site i fail. Now i dont know where to start. in my first attempt result i got 2 below the passing standard, but on my second it was more than 2 below so i dont know maybe i should do live review or on line review have read a lot from pple on this site and has lifted my spirit. This are the book that i have kaplan strategy 2012-2013 i just got it from Amazon, and 4000 question incredible made easy also i have La charity. since i have all this book do i still need to get saunders?. please any infor. i will put it to practice i graduated in 2011 and am tired of reading

@Mariedj88.. took nclex pn on may 9th i didnt pass, i am planning to join hurst review i hope its gonna help me
I'm sorry to hear about you not passing, I am in the same boat and my best advice is to never give up! It's difficult when seeing classmates passing, but it motivates me to try harder. I know we will both past the second time! I tried Hurst Review, the cheaper one is good cus it's a bargain as well as being able to watch the videos repeatedly. It's like watching youtube and filling out worksheets at same time. What I did was studied the "core content" which is basic Med Surg information, and watched those videos at least 3 times to keep it in my head while doing disc practice questions. I think what has helped people most is just understanding the rationales to questions. I hope this helps you and wish you best of luck when you do retake!
