Tonight's Boston Med: nurses featured!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I know last week there was discussion about how nurses were NOT featured in the first episode. Tonight, 10 minutes in, they've shown two nurses talking and working.

the first one addressed how people think that nurses just pass pills and bedpans. well, she talked about it briefly

second one-(or, other viewers, was it the same nurse on a different day witha different hairdo) she was caring for a drunk man. it appears she was giving a bedside report-to another nurse, maybe? they didn't say. anyways, the gentelman was saying how he had to get out of there, had a paper he had to turn in to school in 3 hours, etc. Nurse was telling him that he almost died last night, he wasn't leaving, she had already heard his sob story and she didn't care that he had something to turn in, he should have thought about that before getting so drunk.

Did anyone else who watched that think that she was seriously being rude to him? I mean, if you dont care, you dont care, no one can make you care. But she stood there and told him to his face that she didnt care about what he had to do. Yelling at him like she was his mother. What a great public impression of nurses- its like the Nurse Ratchet sterotype. Yes, it was just an edited clip of an episode, adn possibly taken out of context.....but, she did say it.

and, maybe that was a poor editing job to purposely make her look all snotty....

opinions?

Oh and I love that CPR vest that was on the 18yr cardiac arrest patient. i have never seen or heard of those. Awesome.

Wasn't that thing amazing? I thought it was genius.

Fribblet I so hoped we were finished.

Anyway thanks for explaining for the other poster.

As for me coming down into reality, I never left. I didn't get where I am today from being in the clouds and dreaming. I am frankly surprised that people who don't know me are telling me things like that, but what can I say. I can see that the onkly that is going to shut some of ya'll up is to come back like you've suggeted. Oh and news flash, That's going to be a few years, so get over it.

I'll come off my "Ivory Tower" when you come down off of yours.

That CPR vest was pretty cool. I've never seen or heard of them either. Are they common?

Most of the fire rescue teams have them in the Boston area. Any code that came in from the surrounding area usually had one.

Are you daft? You asked for an explanation; I provided it. Don't shoot the messenger.

Fribblet, please think before post. Sometimes people don't understand they things are said so instead of replying to it ignorantly they ask for an explanation so they can try to make a somewhat intelligent reply.

I asked thay specific poster to explain, not you. You could have very well taken what he said out of context. Even if you didn't I wasn't asking for your two cents there I wasaking for that posters, that's why I quoted it. :)

You don't get to dictate who responds on an open forum. Sorry.

I didn't take what she said out of context. What she was trying to say is pretty obvious. Since you said you didn't understand, I explained it, but apparently you are still having difficulty understanding her simple comment. Let me break it down for you:

You're in an "ivory tower" watching a football game. The QB throws the ball and the receiver catches it. With the view you have up in your "ivory tower" it's easy to see the holes in the defense and tell where the player should run. However, when you're on the field (in "reality") seeing the holes and knowing where to go and what to do isn't so simple.

That's what the poster was trying to say to you. I'm sorry you're having difficulty with this concept.

If I have grossly mistaken what Career Changes has said, I'm sure I'll be corrected.

I'm sure your a very nice person and a great nurse so I going to try not to debate with you anymore.

If you don't want to be shot don't put yourself in the line of fire.

I appreciate the posters that are posting to try and help me understand a point, but it seems to me that you are just getting spiteful. You've talen it too far. I apologize if I offended you with earlier posts, but as for now I'm finished trying to reason and be nice to you. If have any other problems with my posts PM me or report it. I'm mot the one going back and forth with a 17yo. Just like I don't dictate who posts you should stop trying to dictate and judge what I say in my posts, they are my opinions that I am, regardless of what you want to tell yourself, entited to or else they would make you show proof of a nursing licenses before you got an account.

I will be back to tell the rest of you guys how my opnoins have changed or not changed in the future.

Fribblet hit the nail on the head. My post was not directed towards any particular individual, though. I was simply stating that it is very easy to criticize the decisions and actions of another person from afar. A wide vantage point has it's benefits in determining the proper course. This is why we try to observe and analyze as much information as possible prior to making decisions. One important thing to bear in mind (again, in my opinion) with regard to nursing, is the idea of not being judgmental or quick to jump to conclusions. I think it is beneficial to observe people in their environment, and the decisions they make while in tough situations so that we can reflect on how we might handle things differently.

I am not a nurse yet, so don't flame me. Oh, I'm also not a "she". ;)

Lolz!!! Sorry Career changes I'll go back and correct that.

Has this thread changed from the Boston Med thread to the PatMac10 show? Wondering if we can get back to the program. PatMac10 no reply needed for my post...thanks:rolleyes:.

...they are my opinions that I am, regardless of what you want to tell yourself

This cuts both ways PatMac. You can't tell someone that you're entitled to your opinion and then get your panties in a twist when someone disagrees with you. You're entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to mine, and my opinion has been that you have no experience in what you're forming opinions about, and that your opinions and judgments are sometimes incorrect. (But just for the record, you didn't originally state an "opinion." You stated what you thought you knew. )

So, if you're entitled to your opinion, then I'm entitled to mine, and you have no authority to prevent me from expressing it.

I'm sorry you've been repeatedly told you don't know what you're talking about and that it upsets you. I'm sorry that a blunt, matter-of-fact approach upsets you. The world isn't sugar coated.
