Toefl-ibt re-scoring

Published

hello people..

i would just like to ask if any of you guys went through the TOEFL-iBT Recoring process.?

If any of you did, how did you go about it?

i have the toefl rescoring form already but i don't know where to send it. is it by standard mail? email or by fax?

thanks guys..

Take it from me -forget re-scoring. You will only end up the loser. Its as if TOEFL dare you to a rescore and gives you an even lower grade and takes your money. Happened to me twice.

I suggest you do the IELTS. Its better peace of mind.

i agree with the reply above it takes two answer for resocring its either goes up or down

Actually, I'm going for the rescore because i feel bad that i passed the total score but then failed on the speaking part. you see, i got 96 but got 24 for speaking section which should be 26 to be able to get the visascreen right? so im just trying my luck..hoping and praying that it'll increase to 26.. i know i did my best, that's why i got quite a good score overall.. so, there im just really taking chances.. if i still don't pass, maybe its not meant for me to pass yet..

*I really really wanted to take IELTS because I know its easier to pass than TOEFL. But if you've been reading my previous posts, I was quite confused then whether to take IELTS or TOEFL. I emailed NJ BON sometime around September last year, inquired with what English Exam to take, they told me that TOEFL is the only accepted English Exam. So I decided to follow what they said. However, recently, I learned from one of the members here who also went through the same problem as mine.. NJ BON replied to her email and told her that s/he can take IELTS instead of TOEFL. Sigh. It's really really confusing. I'll try to email NJ BON again after the results of my rescore. If i still don't qualify, I might go for IELTS once the NJ BON gives me the Go signal. What do you guys think?

Would not go for the rescoring, we see many from your country that do not get thru the speaking section; and have not seen one get helped by rescoring.

Suggest that you focus on taking the exam again. There is no hurry what so ever right now with the retrogression in place, and besides that, the VSC has an expiration date as well of five years.

Your choice as to what to do. And we always recommend the IELTS exams in the first place.

hey suzanne

i'm working on my ces papers now. what i understand from the ces handbook, is that the ces report must be accompanied with the english proficiency report.

page 6 of the ces handbook:

additional requirements for new jersey and michigan

the new jersey board of nursing requires proof that the applicant has achieved a passing score on the english proficiency examination required by the department of homeland security for certification of healthcare workers in section 343 of the illegal immigration reform immigrant responsibility act of 1996. the michigan board of nursing also requires proof of english language proficiency for applicants who graduated from a nursing school program that was taught in a language other than english. the cgfns ces report must be accompanied by this english language proficiency report containing the passing scores of the approved english examinations detailed in the cgfns visascreen® handbook.

so there..i'm working on my english exams so that i can be through with the ces and then take nclex after that. i'm on the right track, right?

You are on the correct track, but again, do not go thru the rescoring. Especially on the speaking section. Have not seen one person get their score changed for a higher grade, only stay the same or even drop down.

Rescoring works when it is something that is written and the pencil mark may not have been dark enough, or something else similar to that. As far as the speaking section, it is not going to work. They are looking for specifics when grading that.

I would focus on preparing for the English exams again before even worrying about the NCLEX exam. There is a retrogression in place right now, so you are looking at years before even having a chance at a visa for the US. And your English skills need to be impecable, especially even more so in the speaking section. And if you go back and do any reading about the English requirements, and you will see that we only recommend the IELTS as many from your country have issues with trying to pass the speaking section on the TOEFL exam. The other exam uses a human as your scorer, and it is done one on one and in person with them. Usually easier for someone to get thru it that way.

is the toefl required for credentialing evaluation services??

Requirements for the CES report are dependent upon the state that you are planning to go thru for licensure. If they have a language requirement, then CES is going to require it of you.

If they do not, then it is not needed for the CES.

Without knowing the state, impossible to tell you. Suggest that you check out the website for the state that you are interested in.

hi suzanne

im a filipino immigrant in NJ, just recently took the TOEFL-IBT, passed the other sections except for the speaking section. My question is if NJ BON would still grant me to take the nclex exams even if i failed the speaking section of the toefl-ibt?

To get eligibility to sit NCLEX you need to meet requirements and if you fail English exam and that is a requirement then you will not get eligibility

i did pass the toefl-ibt with a score of 88, but the speaking section i only had 23, but cgfns requires 26. i can speak well and comprehend well, I heard a lot of people are having problems with the scoring system of toefl-ibt speaking section. And as some people here suggest that i should take ielts, but NJ BON requires TOEFL. Should i retake or have a rescore?
