hi! just want to hear from both sides of the coin whether which one is harder, the local board or nclex? some says nclex is easier than NLE because there is no community health nursing in the exam but some says NCLEX is harder because it's more on application.geez, i'm confused.
well.. for me.. all you have to do is to be prepared for the exam.. for my NLE, i enrolled in a review center, and i utilized only the lectures that the review center gave us so i must say that i really had a hard and tough time answering the questions in NLE..
for the NCLEX, i didnt enroll in any review center anymore, but utilized SUzanne's Plan, wherein the first part will be having to do with SAUNDERS.. and so i utilized that book, well, i can say that because of my preparation, i didnt have any hard time answering NCLEX-RN..:redpinkhe
I took 4 different examinations. I took the June 2006 NLE, Retook the entire exam last June 2007, the CGFNS, then the NCLEX. Base on my experience June 2006 NLE is the most difficult, then June 2007 NLE, next is CGFNS then the NCLEX. You need to take the NLE for two days paper and pen type of exam. That's 500 questions. You will be taking that under time pressure and in hot and uncomfortable testing sites (shading your answer sheet using a pen out in an angry sun while wiping your perspiration). Questions are practical and sometimes subjective. And you have to wait for at least four months for the results (very stressful). For CGFNS, you will take the exam for about 4 hours paper and pen. Questions are theoretical. Exams are held in hotels. Results are mailed after at most 3 weeks. For the NCLEX-RN you will take your exam through a computer. You will have to sit in an ergonomics chair and airconditioned room. YOu also have the option of an earplug and when to take your break. You can have the luxury of time to answer the questions to at most 6 hours. If you are good enough then you stop at 75. Then you receive your results after 48 hours (quickresults). Most of the questions are situational and application (ideal setup).
helluurr???? NCLEX covers medical surgical and dont just need memorization but memorization, application, analysis, math...and so many else!
the NLE's coverage relied to "trends" that somehow gives clues to what most likely will come out.
Nclex no doubt is harder but very very helpful for nurses' growth

If you think NCLEX-RN is harder than the NLE then you are entitled to your own opinion. But this thread is all about experience. So maybe it would be wise to respect others opinion as well.
AS far as my experience is concern, NLE is far the most difficult exam that I hurdled.
Oh yeaH!!!
Based on my experience,i can say that if you take all the exams in nursing you can atleast notice whos the easy and the most difficult to pass.IF coordinator thinks, there's no comparrison. That's her opinion.
I passed my local board exam lastdec 2005,i only focus topic like community, psychia, and O.b topics.then i passed my cgfns, and i can say i find it difficult if i didnt study hard on M.S,cgfns is like knowledge based questions.if you loved to read a lot!thank GOD.THEN I PASSED MY NCLEX, :nurse:ICAN SAY,THE BEST EXAM I TOOK.as the say,the more harder question you get,the greater change you will have.i really enjoy taking the nclex, because you can feel your answer is correct if your next question belongs to the difficult level.Even am still in # 45,i can feel i will stop or shot down at 75.its so cool!then i pass at 75.
For me.local board exams is the most difficult among them all, during our time, the test writer themselves did not follow their own test plan, and not a textbook based questions. The NCLEX,the most easy among the them and the best exams i pass.i am not good in analysis, but i study hard in strategies to answer them.
i prayed a lot!:bowingpur
i haven't taken the NCLEX yet but i know more people who passed the nclex on their first take than the NLE.does anyone know the passing rate of filipino nclex takers?
I don't know where to get data for passing percentage of Filipino nurses. The best comparison would be to go to https://www.ncsbn.org/Table_of_Pass_Rates_2008.pdf. According to that material, the passing percentage of first time, internationally educated nurse, is 47.4%.

well im stating my opininion? im not stepping on other else's opinion here..unless you really felt offended.
and my opinion again, if one finds NLE hardest, then may i suggest to squeeze some more knowledge before you take nclex
i self-studied for nle for 1 month and passed (time constraints because i just came home from months of community nursing immersion around april and when graduation sank in, i celebrated first, and then used the whole month of May to study, then took the June NLE). for nclex, it was longer because i have to wait for the processing. i passed for 75 q's 1 hr. i think nobody can say which is harder, but when it comes to preparation, nclex deserves a longer one because 1.)more money is at stake and one cannot risk paying again and exerting more time/mos re-studying 2.) more info is needed because phil. hospital/healthcare practice is still different from usa hospital/healthcare practice.
the real deal is: RESPECT BOTH EXAMS. PREPARE AND ACCEPT THEIR DIFFERENCES. :loveya:
I took both exams and I think (and this is MY own opinion), NCLEX is definitely harder than the NLE. I passed NLE and did not enroll in a review center because even w/o their help, you can pass the exam. It's true that you have to answer 500 items, BUT, questions were and still are predominantly knowledge based only. Doesn't involve much thinking. Plus if you fail, you can just retake and retake w/o shelling out $350.
NCLEX involves a lot of application, assessment, analysis and implementation questions and a few alternate format type of questions. I also did not enroll in a review center for NCLEX and passed but my study time was longer and was more "serious" . Just my two cents!
NCLEX is a licensing exam, you need to meet the requirements of the new state before you would be able to write the exam for them. The exam is also not specific to any one state, it is a national exam and there is no truth to the rumor that it is harder for one state over another. The exam actually does not know which state that you are writing it for.You may wish to consider another state since CA does not issue a license without a SSN#, and their passing letter is only valid for three years.
What state issues a license without an SSN?

NCLEX is difficult and very expensive to fail so you really need to prepare for this exam. As for the NLE, it is also difficult but at a more cheaper price if you fail it. You need P900 ($22) just to retake the exam...Besides, some questions in the NLE were taken from Nursing books and NCLEX reviewers.
