Hi - I start classes in October. :) Congrats :)

Great to meet you, I will turn in my paperwork on June 15th. Congrats on your acceptance....it's hard to get into SAC nursing program :uhoh3: Are you taking any of the prepcourses through Continuing Education. I am taking Spanish for Healthcare providers which starts this Friday and Pharmacology math in August (3 day course)

Hopefully we'll have some more people joining this thread.

The Pharm class is probably the most important to take anyway. Glad that you can take that one at least, I bet it will be of great help, Math has always been my worst subject. My name is Kirsten. that's cool that you check in on the 15th also. I'll be there 9:00 a.m. SHARP LOL

i just graduated from SAC in May. if you guys have any questions, let me know!!

How wonderful that you found us ;)

Thanks for offering to answer questions since I have a couple.

1. Do women wear pant scrubs to clinicals or are we required to wear dresses and pantyhose :uhoh3:

2.Will I be registered for two theoretical and two clinicals the first semester?

3. I heard rumors that they change clinical schedules on a short notice which would create a childcare dilemma for me.

4. At which hospitals do we do clinicals?

Thanks in advance, I am sure I'll have more questions as time goes on.

I am super nervous about the entire thing.

BTW Congratulations on your graduation!

We wear whites, your choice as to whether you wear pants or skirts. everyone that i can think of wore pants...

The classes are in "flexes" which means that you take one class at a time, for 8 weeks, then you move on to the next class. ...

The rumors are absolutely true about them changing your schedule, although it seems to be getting worse as the semesters go along. However, they do tend to keep you in days, if you had already signed up for day classes. During registration, we would sign up for specific teachers, but by the time classes started, it would be another teacher.

Different teachers do clinicals at different hospitals. I have done clinicals all around San Antonio. There is no way to tell which hospital you will go to, until about the week before classes start.

Any other questions, feel free to ask!! I know that i had tons of them when i started!!

By the way, at the orientation the week before you start nursing school, you will get a list of books. It is really tempting, because you are so excited, to go to the bookstore and buy. Dont do it!! They give you the list for the whole first year, and you only really need about 25% of what they actually tell you. Besides, they change books so often, it is possible that the book will change before you actually get to the class! The books are SUPER expensive (think $200 each), and you will only use certain ones!

PM me for my e-mail address, and we can talk more in particular about the books. I will give my e-mail address so that you can e-mail me right before school starts!!

Hi Duncan!!! How are you? I wanted to ask u a couple of questions about SAC. Do you have to apply to the school 1st or just apply straight into the program? Did you have to take an entrance exam before u get accepted? How many people do they take per semester? I am kinda concerned about my GPA also. Thanks in advance.

you have to apply to the school first, then you apply to the program...there was no entrance exam to get in. just make sure all your transcripts are in in plenty of time to be evaluated...i am not sure how many are currently being accepted each semester. next fall, there is rumor that there will be more accepted when there is the new nursing buiding built. it is a very competetive program, with many applicants. 2 years ago, when i was accepted, they accepted 200 people. half for days, and half for evening classes. the minimum gpa for my class was around 3.5. if you are concerned about your gpa, i would say take some classes to boost it....

let me know if there are any more questions. some of the other newer students might be able to give you more up-to-date figures about the gpa...
