TNCC and ENPC course

Published

Hi

Are the courses TNCC (trauma nursing core course) and ENPC (emergency nursing pediactric course) taken in the UK. Sue

Specializes in Neonatal nursing (paediatric trained).

As far as I know, the courses don't have those names, but there would be similar courses. A lot of post-registration courses used to be covered by the ENB are now held in universities and can have different names. If there's a UK university you're interested in, have a look at their post-registration nursing courses. There are degrees, diplomas and continuing professional development levels usually.

For instance, a local uni to me has:

CPPD Emergency Care (Level 5)

CPPD Nursing Care of the Child with Critical Illness (Level 5)

CPPD Paediatric Intensive Care (Level 5)

CPPD Emergency Care (Level 6)

CPPD Nursing Care of the Child with Critical Illness (Level 6)

Specializes in Flight RN / ED RN.

I know of one UK RN who posts here who has TNCC.

A quick Google search actually brough me back to allnurses.com which in turn, pointed me to this webpage.

If it is anything like in the states, you will have no problem with TNCC. Just get the book early and read ahead if you can.

:thankya:

I passed TNCC last October. Took it at the Salford location. It was Saturday and Sunday 08:00 - 18:00. Can't remember the exact cost but it was in the region of £500.

It is an excellent course and a high level of theoretical knowledge is expected prior to the course starting. The course book needs to be studied before the course starts, not just read. Make sure you book early so you get the course book early.

I can recommend the course to any Emergency Nurse as long as you are prepared to study hard.

It is not an easy course by any means; of the 7 Nurses who have taken it where I work, only 3 have passed.

Incidentally my sister has just passed it in the States and said it was not as hard as I was making out, then this weekend a Nurse I work with failed here in England & she has a lot more experience than me! I think it is done 'in-house' in the States but here it is done at regional centres.

I think there is also a cultural difference in training styles between our two countries.

Thanks for your replies. I already have TNCC and ENPC. I am coming back to the UK next year and will be working in an ER and wondered if these courses were accepted. I was amazed at the cost of the TNCC in the UK. In the states is is about $210. approx 110 pound. The book is the same, so I am sure the course material is . Thanks again. Sue

As far as I know TNCC is worldwide. The cost reflects the training culture here I'm afraid.

Billy

Where do you work Billy ? I am coming over in November to London, with my American friend, and would love a tour of a British A&E. Any offers would be welcomed. We are both RN's in a level I trauma center. Sue

Ps any offers welcomed.

Specializes in Spinal Cord injuries, Emergency+EMS.

TNCC is offered in the UK, costs can vary the main facotr is that training is often externally run and may be on a commercial basis

I know PHTLS can be run for half the price you'd pay commercially by using an all volunteer faculty and having access to training space and kit without havign to pay for it ( becasue that's how the course i did as a student to get provider was run)

Specializes in Advanced Practice, surgery.

Just adding to what Zippy has said, the PHTLS is an excellent course and you can also do the ATLS as a nurse observer.

For Paeds in the UK we run the APLS (Advanced Paediatric Life Support) which is run by the ALSG organisation or the EPLS the European Paeds Life Support course run by the resuscitation council UK

We have PALS , or as you know it as APLS. If you have ENPC as it it includes APLS then you dont have to take a seperate course for APLS. ENPC and TNCC last 4 yrs . APLS and ACLS (advanced cardiac life support) only last 2 yrs.

Specializes in Advanced Practice, surgery.

PALS and APLS are different, the APLS includes loads of trauma and the PALS (here anyway) didn't. PALS here has been replaced by EPLS
