Tired of being UNDERPAID!?

Hi all..

is anyone else out there tired of being underpaid and having all good benefits taken away in order to cut cost? I feel nurses are one of the most underpaid, (and overworked), professions. I am tired of having non educated jobs make more than a nurse, and tired of having all the nice benefits taken away. No wonder there is a nursing shortage. Am I the only one that feels this way?

:( :(

I hear you, I am nursing in Canada and we have it way worse here! I make as a fully registered psychiatric nurse less after taxes than one of the care aides I work with. Some of these careaides have no formal educational training!

I have $30,000 worth of student loans to pay, after my 3 years of education to be trained as a nurse! Had I know that I would make the same as a care aide, I don't know if I would have made the same choice in education. Don't get me wrong, I love my job, but the loans are killing me! It is no wonder to me that we are in a nursing shortage.............

so what do we do?

thats the real question.

I'm underpaid. I'm overworked! And I can whine about it all the way 'til the end of my career, but, I still need to pay my bills! And for now, this profession is all I have and all I can do, so I might as well live with it and enjoy life in some other ways. Afterall, my employer don't have me in shackles.

But if there is a real actual battle out there to get this profession some respect, count me in. Just don't ask me to recruit people to join the profession. It's a quicksand! ;)

One of the things you could do is...

QUIT.

The only time that nursing wages go up is when there is a shortage of nurses...

Another option: Convince all of your nurse friends to call off on the same day.... If half of the nurses in the USA called off The country would come to a standstill. If those same nurses quit their jobs on the same day and waited until the want ads came out the following Sunday in the newspaper, all of those nurses would most likely get a raise and a sign on bonus to boot.

Option three: Stay at your current job, bust your butt, work really hard, try not to catch the flu or hepatitis, avoid needle sticks, keep wiping butts and taking grief from doctors and maybe if you brown nose your supervisor really hard, you'll get a whopping 2 or 3 percent raise - almost enough of a raise to cover the increase in the premiums you have to pay for your medical insurance!!!
