TIPS/Info for passing NCLEX

Published

Hi,

To everyone who passed recent nclex-rn, can you please share what helped you best (cd's, printed materials, etc..) ? Where to focus? and how did you study/prepare?

thanks... this will help a lot of us who are scheduled to take the exams soon

i have a question, is the hurst reveiw book 2011or 2010 different from the one 2008!!! please tell me if you know.

Hello A555! I prepared about 1month and half straight no breaks. I took a 1month refresher course and at the same time I was reviewing Hurst review plus took lots of questions. I know this seems a lot because I really did force myself to do all of that to PASS. But with your situation, you may want to take your time to study and take it when you feel ready. Don't rush it...

With your hectic life, Wow!!! I am proud of your dedication to keep on keeping on. Stay FOCUS.

good day.. im just new here.. read all the posts.. getting me more anxious.. ill be taking the exam on the 25th... studied saunders 3rd edition, practice test nclex 4000, study wizard, kaplan question trainer, lippincott 8th ed...what else do i need to study??? my pulse is ticking like clock...

I found this tool to be absolutely identical to the NCLEX. It even adjusts the difficulty of subsequent questions based on whether you got the last one right or wrong, just like the NCLEX.

You get a prediction of your probability of passing the NCLEX after each 150 question practice test, plus the rationales for all the possible responses, and whether you marked that one right or wrong.

I had planned to do a test a day until I took the NCLEX. Unfortunately, I was only able to tolerate about six of them in the ten days between when I bought the tool and when I sat for the exam (it's hard work!).

And I sailed through the NCLEX.

For $39.95 plus tax, you just can't get much more support.

I had one problem logging in and the tech support people were great. My "clock" didn't start til I could actually get in there and start answering questions.

Good luck everybody!

Hi Lucas, can you send me the details of the tool you used for your NCLEX RN exam. I need help as I just failed the test. I have to wait 30 days before reapplying. someone help me here.I think im gonna pass out.

Thanks

You just have to believe in yourself. It sounds stupid, but its true. Of course do LOTS of questions to prepare, but they dont try to mess you up. Just stay focused. It is nowhere as bad as people make it seem. I am still trying to figure out who started that it is SOOO hard. Its really not, it is just so much anxiety, it can cloud your life till you take it, and then you say, WOW, that was not as terrible as everyone made it seem!!!!

which tool are you talking about. I am interested.

I am so happy that I found this site. All of your stories have been inspirational to me in helping me overcome my negative feelings towards myself for not passing the NCLEX. I graduated in 2006 and took the NCLEX a month after graduating and failed. I figured I would give myself some time off to let my brain relax after so much studying and not to mention, I felt like such a failure as most of my classmates passed on the first try. Well two years passed and I finally decided to give it another chance, and failed again. By reading these posts, it has helped to realize that I am not the only one out there and there is still a chance. I have decided to start hitting the books with a positive attitude and I know I will pass the test!

A special thanks to Lily for sharing your story. I will keep taking the test until I pass! I just wish I didn't wait so long as the material is not fresh in my brain anymore.

Hi Galyndrial! I just saw your post, I'm glad my story inspired you. Hope your studying is going well. Study hard, stay focus and good Luck!!

I took the Kaplan review course in which I think was really good as far as boosting my confidence level, but as for everything else it was OK. I didn't care too much for the in- person portion but I did like the online portion (trainers and q-bank)...I think the best way to prepare for NCLEX is to begin a few weeks before the test doing nothing but questions and making sure you read the rationales. I did a 3 week study plan which consisted of me doing at 100-150 questions a day. I did use the Kaplan questions, but if you don't have those I think NCLEX 3500 or 4000 would work just as well. I also used the "Prioritization, delegation, and assignment: practice exercises for the NCLEX examination" book. I think it's a really great book to study from. No matter what version of the ncex exam you get, you will surely see some prioritization and delegation questions. I also recommend going over your major drug classifications. I had several drugs on my test, some I knew and others I had no idea what they were...On the day before the test just try and relax. Enjoy your day by doing something stress free and fun. Also, make sure you get a good night's rest and a well balanced breakfast in the morning. Go in the test with confidence and be sure to pray! Good luck with everything. ?

P.S. I must warn you that it's perfectly fine to feel unsure about how you did afterwards. Just about everyone who takes NCLEX feels that way. My computer shut off at 75q's and my heart almost stopped. I left the testing center feeling very unsure about how I did. My exam had several medications, an ekg strip, & lots of select all that applies (in which I'm horrible at), but I tried the pearson pop trick (which really works) to help ease some of my anxiety and 48 hrs later I found out that I really did pass...And for those of you who had to take HESI like I did, don't worry about your scores on them. I bombed a lot of those exams but still passed NCLEX on my first try.

I passed the first time as well. I did not take a review course. I studied content using Saunders and practiced questions using LaCharity and NCLEX 4000. Practice lots of questions and read rationales to all questions!!!!

Hello everyone, I took the NCLEX RN this past tuesday..... The computer shut off @ 75 questions... I took my time w every question like that was the only question on the exam. I just found out I passed!!! The way I studied was by doing questions from Lippincott's Q & A Review for NCLEX- RN book (10th Ed). I did about 3,000 questions in total with rationales.... During the test I could not believe what I was seeing, the test was not hard. It was in fact easier than my Med-Surge exams.... The NCLEX is not impossible. Good luck future nurses!!

I remember when I took the NCLEX. I was sick for at least 2 weeks before the exam. Reading about all of your experiences has me reliving my exam. This most likely will not be the last standardized test you take, so it is important to learn how you study best. I found that if I reviewed facts and memorized them beyond a doubt, that the test questions were not difficult. Look for flash cards and study, study, study. Even if you do only 20-30 a day, eventually you will get the facts and then you can apply it. Look for the Leitner memorization technique at flashyourboards.com. This electronic flash card program uses it so that you know that you have the information in your brain. You will all make it, just do not give up!
