I have have 4.5 yrs L&D experience with a BSN and I have enjoyed every minute of it, but I am ready for a change. Case management interests me and to be honest, the 9-5 hours would work better for my family right now. I have only worked L&D, do I stand a chance? When employers are looking for nurses with clinical experience (no specialty specified) are they thinking more of like LTC, Med. Surg, ER type clinical experience?

L&D is probably the weakest background for starting out in case managment. Your only chance might be in an insurance company with a "healthy beginnings" program.
That's what I was afraid of.

You can also try the Health Departments. They hire BSNs for Public Health Case Management.

I have an L&D background and have ex coworkers with antepartum backgrounds that have gotten case management positions. Just start applying, you never know until you try.

I work for a health department and LOVE case management. We have nurses that do MCC (Maternity Care Coordinator) and CSC (Child Service Coordinator) and the Healthy Beginnings. All of which have requirments of L&D, post-partum or pediatrics. I came to the health department with only peds experience and was able to sit for my case managment certification last year and passed! You just need to find the right place to use your skills. Good luck!
