Tips on breaking into case management nursing from L&D do I stand a chance?
I have an L&D background and have ex coworkers with antepartum backgrounds that have gotten case management positions. Just start applying, you never know until you try.

Can barely survive on this salary
I'm in the same situation you are in. I have a prn job in addition to my full-time school nurse position but working 2 jobs with a family is absolutely exhausting. When I took the school nursing job my husband had a good salary and we would have been in great shape financially, but he was laidoff about a month after I started. I love school nursing but I'm going to have to make a decision soon because I do not make enough to cover my bills monthly. I hope you find a solution that is best for you. I know it is frustrating.

Computer charting
I'm looking into doing agency nursing and the majority of hospitals in my area (Dallas) use an EMR program for charting. How are agency nurses trained to do computer charting if you are going from hospital to hospital?

Is anyone in Dallas?
I'm glad the district offers extensive training. Since this will be new for me, I'm concerned about what situations I may have to deal with and how to organize the clinic so that it runs efficiently. I want to learn as much as I can before I start.

Is anyone in Dallas?
I just accepted a position as a school nurse and I'm trying to research and learn as much as possible. I need any advice you can give me as a new school nurse as well as helpful books and websites. I have found some good information on this board and I need all the help I can get. Feel free to send a PM if you would like.

Something fun: What would you REALLY like to say to new PARENTS?
I remember explaining to a patient and her mother that the doc was going to come in and rupture her membranes. The patient's mother caught me outside the room and said "won't the baby dry out". :chuckle It was hard for me to keep my composure!

hospitals offering on site daycare?
Presbyterian Hospital Dallas has one. There may be a waiting list though.

Any Dallas school nurses here?
Hello, I've read that DISD has a good program for school nursing. I'm thinking about transitioning to school nursing and I wanted to get some feedback on the district. Feel free to send me a private message. Thanks.

Anyone enrolled in Del mar eline ADN?
I was accepted into the program in 2004 and I knew I was accepted within a couple of months of submitting all of my paperwork. I really don't have the most current information about the enrollment process since I'm graduating. You will have to complete all of the pre-reqs before being accepted, so you need to get the history class completed. The good thing is they enroll students more frequently than on campus programs, it used to be every other month but I don't know what it is now. They may grant you enrollment pending that class and then you can start as soon as you complete it and turn in your transcript. As far as the clinicals, for each rotation you have a set amount of hours to complete. There is not a set schedule. Basically you work whatever schedule your preceptor works. Send me a PM if you have any other questions.

looking for a job!!!!!!!!
That was quick! Congrats on the job. You got a good starting salary. The internships will open back up in June, so worst case if you didn't get in one in Jan. you can start early and apply for June. I wish you the best. TW

looking for a job!!!!!!!!
The internships are not starting until Jan. 08. Baylor has several intern positions posted as well as Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas and other THR hospitals. There was a big nursing/healthcare job fair listed in this past Sunday's paper but I don't remember when it will be held. There are a lot of opportunities for new grads but you will have to wait until Jan. to start. If you need something now you may want to check with some of the smaller hospitals.

Anyone enrolled in Del mar eline ADN?
Hello, I'm graduating from the TAMUCC eLine program in December and I'm glad you pointed out this the program is challenging. Sometimes I feel like people underestimate the program because it is online. Nursing school is very demanding and challenging no matter how you do it. For all of you who are interested, please keep in mind that you may have to do your clinicals in the Corpus area so if you do not live in that area you will have to travel for about 900 hours of clinicals. TAMUCC has some sites outside of the Corpus area, but I don't believe Del Mar does (correct me if I'm wrong) Enrollment in the program is becoming more and more competitive, especially at Del Mar. However, I don't believe it is as hard to get in as most of the on-campus programs. Good luck to all of you. Tamela
