To all the seasoned nurses, if you were able to go back in time and tell you're younger self one thing about nursing that you didn't know before you became one , what would it be?
I think I'd tell myself that every unit will have it's good aspects and bad aspects, and there's no such thing as a perfect unit or job. If you leave a unit because of the bad stuff, you might realize after you're gone that there were some really good things you'd taken for granted. For instance, even if one unit has better staffing ratios, the other might have a better PTO policy or a more supportive manager.
Nurses can be pretty vocal when they're annoyed, and it tends to escalate in groups. Many people get swept up in the current 'unit grumblings' and lose sight of the things that are really great. It's easier to focus on the things that annoy you, but it's so important to be conscious of the parts that are working. This is especially true if you're considering leaving your job because of your frustrations.

Tweety, I agree. I have regrets but nothing I would do differently.
