Timeline for endorsing RN license to CA

Published

I am interested to hear anyones experience in endorsing their license into CA. I used the online endorsement as well as the livescan fingerprinting. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I finally got my license just now!!! So happy!!!!!!!!! Here is the final breakdown of my licensing timeline:

March 3- Requested fingerprint cards from BON.

March 25- Received cards

March 27- Mailed all application materials, including transcripts/Nursys verification

April 10- File noted as open/check cashed on BreEZe system, status "Pending" with "Missing Education History"

May 29- BON voice messaging system still notes that they are processing March applications

June 3- BON voice system still says they are processing March applications, but noticed "Missing education history" is gone on BreEZe and now status just says "Open".

June 5- Called BON to check on status, told that she couldn't tell whether my transcripts were received and that it could be another 4 weeks.

June 10- Called BON and was told that they DID have my transcripts, but that it could still take another 3 weeks for the evaluator to get to my file.

June 11- Filed complaint with DCA about how long this was taking. Made sure to mention that everyone I spoke with was polite and professional, but that I was still frustrated.

June 15h- License processed and posted on BreEZe website!!

This was all done using paper fingerprint cards/mailing everything in. Patience is a virtue, and mine sure was tested with this!

Hi everyone! This thread has been so helpful! So glad I found it. I never realized how long it takes to receive a California license by endorsement until I contacted a CA travel recruiter. I am just glad I chose to go PRN at work instead of flat out quitting! :wideyed: I am just starting the application process.

I'm from Florida and looking to get my CA license. I was hoping to move this summer, but realize that is impossible now and will just have to be patient. In the mean time, I have booked a flight to San Francisco in July and plan to stay a week to do the live scan and hand deliver my application to Sacramento.

My question is, how soon should I have already mailed out my nursing school transcripts to California? (I have my ASN and BSN from schools that I am able to drive to in person today if needed in order to complete the forms) You think the week before I leave for my flight is okay to go to my schools and have them mail it out? And should I also ask for hand copies from both schools to deliver while I am in CA as well to be on the safe side? Any advice would be helpful. Thank you and good luck to all who are still pending.

Has anyone heard of a hospital not accepting or letting you work under a temp license? I'm still waiting for my permanent CA license but have the temporary license. I was told the other day in an interview that I would have to have the permanent in before I could begin working.

I was not aware of that, but Im emailing the recruiter now for the hospital that offered me a position. Thanks for sharing this!

I am thinking that with a temp license its only good for 6 months-if for whatever reason you run into problems in getting your perm license then the hospital is out of money for orientation etc

I initially thought of flying to Sacramento to turn in my application but couldnt find a decent airfare so this is what I did. I was in nearby NV so I drove to Barstow CA in Dec 2014 and did my livescan. Around March 12 I sent all my nursing school transcripts next day-did it via online. All my licenses except one (PA) was sent via NURSYS. My PA license was sent off from PA BON in 3 days. Finally on March 25th I mailed off my application-on April 9th my check was cashed. Received my CA license on May 21st. I paid for a temp license which was a waste of $50 but thats ok.

Thats how my application was listed on Breeze except once missing education history was taken out-pending was changed to open and less than 10 days-license was issued

They said some organizations do allow you to work under a temp but they do not. I challenged them a bit bc I didn't quite understand why but they didn't give a reason. Just their policy

Hello all, I hope all is well! As of today the deficiencies and notes section of my Breeze account have cleared and status (under descriptions) shows "open". Just curious about how long it took for everyone to get their license #'s from this point?

P.S. I did speak to someone from the CA BRN the other day and he stated that they are offering employees overtime to get caught up on applications faster :)

They are getting slower. I just received my finger print cards 3+ weeks after I submitted my initial request....God knows how long the rest of the steps is going to take.

Someone mentioned about a public speaking course requirement. I don't remember taking a course specifically called public speaking. Can I use anything else to substitute? I am going for my DNP for God's sake....I have spoken publicly plenty of time.

Following this thread has been really useful while waiting for my nursing license to be endorsed. I finally received my CA license today!! :) Thought I would share my timeline.

March 27th - Did my LiveScan during a visit to California.

April 30th - Received e-mail to update Breeze account/confirm e-mail. (Submission date on acct says: 4/28/15)

May 1st - Check Cashed

May 6-8 -Under Deficiencies/notes were names of school transcripts that I sent with "SUSP" next to it (I have found out from reading another forum this means that transcripts have been received, but have not yet been reviewed.)

June 17 - Status changed to "open"; Transcripts are cleared and no longer under deficiencies.

July 6 - Checked on the Breeze website and saw that license number was issued!!

Also, I did not try to contact the California Board of Nursing at anytime. So without calling/e-mailing the whole process took about 3 months for my license to come through. My fiancee who also endorsed the same time as I did is still waiting for his license number. Good luck! It's a long process, but you'll get endorsed!
