Hi everyone,
I got a question. My best friend is getting married on October 1st, 2016 in Europe. I want to go to her wedding except I will be starting my first semester of nursing (RN) at SC4 starting August 2016. I wanted to see if I can take a week off during the semester. I know it is probably not recommended but I just want to make sure I can still get my clinical done even if I have to miss a week. Any suggestions/comments? Please help. Thank you!

My understanding is that time off during the quarter is only granted for emergencies/illness and even then it can be problematic rescheduling a clinical make-up. I find it very doubtful that instructors would find a mid-quarter trip to Europe a valid excuse for missing clinical and class time. Unfortunately you will probably not be able to attend your friend's wedding.

People flunk out of nursing school all the time for missing that much time for a legitimate family or medical emergency. I can't imagine a school would give you the time off for a social engagement.
Thank you for replying! I will just have to call and tell her I can't make it. School is more important at this time.

My sister got married and I was allowed to miss one day of lab my first semester. I did not miss clinical. Last semester I had a miscarriage and was in the ER on the day of my clinical and I was not allowed to make it up. I did not fail as we were allowed to miss a certain number of clinical hours, but still, it was a medical emergency. Plus, my clinical rotation was labor and delivery. So say I would have been physically able to go, I couldn't with the pain, mentally it was not possible.
Check with your school, but I'm guessing it's going to be a no.
