Tidewater Community College-hopefuls application July 2014

Published

This is a new tread for anyone applying July 15, 2014 for TCC Nursing program.

I found out today that I am accepted into the concurrent program at ODU! Anyone else doing that?? I will be starting in the fall since I am starting in the latter cohort for TCC (March).

My plan is to apply for the fall because I still have a couple of Gen ED courses to go like History and Foreign language... Did you have all the Gen ED courses completed or have a previous degree?

They won't allow you to start the program in January? Or did you just choose to start in fall?

I have a previous degree so I had all my Gen Ed's done. I won't be starting til the fall though either, which I am actually sort of happy about because that means I can get a slow introduction into nursing school and figure out how many classes I can handle at once.

She told me I would have to start in the fall since the concurrent program is only fall/spring, and I don't start TCC's program until after the start of their spring semester. I was thinking about asking if I could start the introductory course (NURS 401) in the spring. It won't be a huge deal if I have to wait though.

Ohh ok gotcha, I applied but as of now I'm an alternate for tcc's program so I gotta wait and see.

Also...Do u all have all of your immunizations done?

Well I would definitely go ahead and apply to ODU as a regular student so you can get that part out of the way. The only immunizations I need are the PPD and the flu shot. I'll be getting those next week.

Well I'm also not as competitive for the regular program at odu. For my shots I need the PPD and most likely the Varicella because I do not see that on my records which is strange. I also don't understand how I have to wait another 4 weeks to get the second shot because by then it'll be too late. I hope they can explain it more clearly tomorrow when I call up there.

I'm cohort 3!!!

I'd apply to both ODU and the concurrent because they can/will accept on the contingency that you finish up a gen ed classes. They also offer "Maymester" classes which is a quick 3 week semester starting May 12 so people can begin in the fall.

I have signed for the certified profile, and bought my nurse insurance. Yesterday had all my shots, and drawn blood for the titers. I have to be back tomorrow to read the PPD test. And have another appointment Monday for the rest of the paperwork. The day after I got the letter, I went to school to drop the blue sheet to accept my spot on the nursing program. I bought the book for NUR 108, and reading a little bit.

Can you share with us what it looks like and the title? I think I'd like to avoid paying the suggested retail price at the bookstore.
