Those that have taken CEN - a few questions

I tried scrolling through the many CEN posts, but the list was long and I was just hoping those that have taken it can give me some pointers, thoughts, words of wisdom etc.

Did you take a review class? If so which one? If not, did you use review material? If so, which ones? Did you do both? I'm registered at the BCEN and there are absolutely NO CEN review classes/courses in Ohio (where I'm from) or any where close to me - and I have found some sites like BEMET or Jeff Solheim stuff -but not sure if one prepares you a little more then the other, or if anyone has any other rec's!

A little background about me - I have worked in the ED for 4 years, prior to that worked 2 years in peds.

Not trying to be redundant with another CEN post, was just hoping for some info. TIA

The CEN examination is not an easy one. It is very broad, specific, and virtually anything is possible to see on the test. That being said, the BCEN offers a good guide on what topic are covered and to what extent. I remember taking mine and wished I had studied more about peds and environmental/disaster stuff. I passed, but I quickly saw my weak spots. Expect to see trauma, shock, cardio and MI stuff, pulmonary questions, GI, DIC, sepsis, DKA, peds, disaster/environmental and poisons, plus all kinds of other stuff. The test is specific but I do not believe they are trying to "trick" you. I passed and I studied the core curriculum and also took a Jeff Solheim webinar review course. I passed with a good score. It is a challenging test, so study and stay focused!

klmfbp3,

I studied my ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and ENPC provider manuals. I bought a review book that had a test with it. Any answers I got wrong led me to study that topic more indepth. I did take a review class, but do not believe it was beneficial. Good luck!

Lippincott book/cd, Boswell book. BCEN 150 question practice test. No review class. Hard test, covers a lot of ground but mostly what you do daily. I'm doing the ceu route to recert.

I agree with LunahRN. Excellent review course.
