This site a gift and a curse

Published

I have received so much information from this site. It can be such a blessing and a gift...but I also think at times it may be a curse...or alot of truth? Not sure......

Daily it's post on new grads who can't get a job....it makes me wonder why is vesting 2-3 years into this degree a smart thing....I don't know this site is a gift and a curse....

the new grads that got jobs are busy working, not posting here about how they can't find a job. If you truly want to be a nurse more than anything else in the world, then do it - it's not easy to find a job in ANY field now.

that's true.

dont worry i feel the same way

this site is a learning tool and the things people on here have taught me are amazing and i dont even start nursing school until next semester (if i get in!)

not every thing you learn though you will enjoy knowing

like the previous poster said though, times are tough for everyone

if you want this and really want it, you'll make it through and eventually get a job, it just probably won't be asap

of course you might surprise yourself and land a job three days after graduation, such is life

good luck and hang in there

All nurses need a pop up that states " New grads and students please do not let the posts you are about to read discourage you from nursing. Please be aware that these nurses are just here to vent"

I just wanted to say (Being a new grad in May 2010) that I graduated with a class >100 in BSN and almost every single one of us has a job now. I'm not saying it didn't take some a few months and many many applications, but you will find a job. I got a job lined up prior to even graduating in my choice of field (Pediatrics!). Get good grades, work as a tech in the hospital you want to be an RN at, and get your BSN!! (I mainly just lurk on this site, but felt I should post having been a new grad and finding a job, prior to even graduating!)

haha!

Here's the deal Nicole, you read, you decide what you want to do. Then you do that. Then you come back and say, ****, I am sooooooo glad none of this happened to me, I got a great job - or - yeah, my job is OK, now that I read how bad it could be - or - **** I am in serious trouble at work and I need help navigating what I should do!!! I know I can come to AN and get some good advice because I know there are a lot of nurses who have gone through something similar and they understand and will help if they can - or - yeah, some of this did happen to me, at least I wasn't blind to it and it would have been worse if I didn't know, so now I have some strength to bear it with the knowlege that it's not "just me" who is struggling.

Also, please keep in mind that when some new grads are posting here that they cannot find jobs, there may be various reasons for this. Certainly, trhe economy is bad, and some parts of the country have fewer opportunities. However, I also believe that to some degree in this life, we each create our own experiences. Meaning that perhaps some people might be more successful because they have made connections, have a solid resume, interview well, and just plain persevere. It just depends.

In my previous career, I used to hire and train staff. I do know from my experiences that what I have said here is true. If you want to work as a nurse, you will. It may take longer, and you may not get what you want right away, but it will happen. In the meantime, you can get a lot of valuable tips here, and some humour also. Good luck.
