I was just wondering, since I hope to be starting a new grad program in the very near future.....
What are the things that new grads do that really get under your skin?? Have there ever been times that a new grads judgement/critical thinking skills (or lack there of) have scared the pants off of you??
Just wondering...... :)
Just thought someone may want to vent on this one, I would love to hear it, since I want to avoid being one of those nurses like the plague
"but forgetting to alcohol prep wipe the IV port before giving morphine IV push was very neurotic"
Granted, you didn't deserve an out-loud scolding in front of others (simply handing you a wipe as a reminder would have sufficed) but from an old nurse to a new one....insisting on wiping the hub isn't neurotic. If you don't develop the habit now, you never will.
Not to mention that the family members more than likely appreciated that you were being taught to do the right thing with their loved one.
With this one I agree but unfortunetely on my unit the seasoned nurses are the ones who tend to speak bad about patients.
It goes both ways, but she asked specifically for new grads.
I'm a new preceptor.
I can't change the thoughts of nurses who have been practicing for 20 years, but hopefully I can influence our next generation to see things a little different.

The worst thing ever as a new grad/student is when your preceptor will correct out loud in front of the patient and families. I understand if it is like a life or death mistake, but forgetting to alcohol prep wipe the IV port before giving morphine IV push was very neurotic.
