You have your very 1st semester of nursing school behind you....what are you thinking? What did you totally not expect in the classroom and clinical setting? What are some lessons you learned in your first semester? I am still gathering my thoughts because I have so many mixed feelings about the semester. I DO know one thing for sure...I am definately sticking w/it. I love it, and I know without a doubt that nursing is where I am supposed to be.

I've heard from so many people that you sign your life away when in nursing school.....they weren't kidding. Last night, I actually watched T.V for the first time in months!

I agree! I haven't watched MTV in a loooooooooooooooong time until now!

I still can't believe I made it. I'm so proud of myself. I haven't stopped partying (to relieve stress and get ready for next semester) since friday. I'm so excited. I love my brain, the program I'm in, and the teachers who helped me believe in myself. I think the hardest thing for me has been to realize I can take care of another human being competently and with confidence. My first day of clinicals wasn't too bad b/c I had a good patient, but the following weeks became stressful. I got through it. The exams were hard, but I got throught it. I'm really glad that everyone in my study group also made it. We were eachother's cheerleaders!! Thank God for this 4 week break. I plan on continuieng to study the way I have been and then some. Congradulations Everyone

I just took my last final today!! Woo Hoo!!!!! I got an A on it! I got 3 A's and 1 B for my final grades! I can't believe that this semester is over! It has been so great and I have learned sooooo much! Only 3 more semesters to go! Good luck everyone! Keep up the good work, I know that we can do it!

Nursing school was nothing like what I expected. I can't really put into words what I thought it was going to be..but, boy, was I surprised. There were several times during this first semester that I hated it, but then something (or someone!) neat would come along and change my perpective. I am glad it's over...only three more semesters to go! Congrats to everyone who "survived" our first semester--May 2006 is not that far away!!!

LadyK82--(and everybody else reading this) Hello, I am going to be starting work on my prerequisites in March and I was searching for info on here regarding the kind of stress that nurses face and found this post. I knew I wanted to read it. So, you really felt more assertive after your first semester? I am SURE that I want to be a nurse, because I just absolutely LOVE to help people, and I love talking to people, and everything that nurses do to make the pt feel at ease, etc. I am already a graduate of medical assisting but I know that RN's do a lot more than MA's do. My "fear" if you want to call it that, though, is the overall STRESS... I don't handle people yelling at me too well (I guess I take it personal) and I know doc's tend to get grumpy and sometimes take it out on their nurses. I guess my ??? for all of you is, if you are "lighthearted" (dang is that even the right word, maybe sensitive, ya know what I mean, right??) and stuff, will I still make it as a nurse??? :loveya: I am going into this, after all, for my pt's...
