One of my patients came in today - Monday- having gained 11.6 kg over the weekend! When I talked to her about it, she adamantly insisted that she "doesn't drink very much and doesn't know how she could have gained that much." When I did the math and told her that was over 25 lbs, she still denied drinking very much over the weekend. Arrrrrrrgggggghhhhhh!!!! Why doesn't she just quit wasting our time and take a gun to her head? It would be just as effective at killing herself, just much quicker.
She must think I'm stupid.
Pts are the reason nurse exist.
However, in chronic care, it is a partnership. Sometimes the partnership needs to be dissolved.
I am glad that you are happy with our home dialysis experience NDXUFan.
However, this thread is not meant for pts but rather as a vent thread. If you have returned to work, perhaps you can relate this to a particularly stressful event at your place of employment.
I'm glad you are happy with your situation.
anurseadvocate......hmmm....just because you 'review' work done by other nurses does NOT mean you know how their jobs should be done. Big difference between being an 'armchair' quarterback and being out in the trenches. And you are missing a big piece of the puzzle: patients need to take responsibility for THEIR OWN health. Period. So many diabetic and renal patients that I've seen do not seem to be able to do this, for whatever reason or reasons. A nurse can educate until he/she is blue in the face, but it is up to the PATIENT to take the initiative and at least try to improve his/her health. No one else can do that for them.
I understand the frustrations.....it is so hard to see someone who has end stage COPD for example, who continues to smoke like a chimney and doesn't understand why she is dying. I feel like saying "Why don't you EAT the cigarette, it will kill you faster that way." Do I SAY it. NO. But it is so very frustrating. That is what I think some posters here don't understand. Get out there and WORK with these people directly for a while before passing judgement on the 'horrible' thoughts of those who do just that day in and day out.
As a dialysis consumer, with a four year degree, what gives you the right to act as the consumer's overlord? I left In-Center dialysis because of the Nazi attitudes exhibited by the staff. Until you have walked a day or a week in our shoes, please lose the arrogant attitude. This is how you sound to us.
I have a rule - once Godwin's law is invoked, I'm out. Thank you all.
