They didn't make it :(

I'm just getting the bad news from some of my friends who found out on late on Friday that they're being withdrawn from the program. The nursing dept dropped a surprise math exam on all of us at the end of the last lecture, and they didn't pass. They have this rule that math competency quizzes can be given at any time, and you're only allowed to get 10% of the questions wrong, otherwise you have to withdraw from the program and take remedial courses in safety and prevention of medication errors. I feel soooo bad for these guys because I know how hard they've worked to get this far. And even after they get through the remedial stuff, they have to wait until next next spring (if there's space available) before they can apply to continue in the program. Now, that just sucks, doesn't it!!!

i know how you feel. my two sisters and i started college together and i got in the rn program but neither of them did. i was excited for myself but didn't know how to share the news with my family. but being the sisters they are they smiled and made jokes about i got in because of my age. i am 30 the middle one is 23 and the baby just turned 20. congrads on getting in :)

The difference of course being, that my signature is not the main portion of what I am trying to convey. I have been on the internet since day one and it always makes me chuckle when I see these kind of posting faux pas, but, hey do your thing. I will be skipping them in the future as I'm sure lots of other people do because they are difficult to read and tantamount to typing in all caps.

Carry on~

I second that, IMustBeCrazy. I can't stand to look at those bold fonts, either.

But it seems that common courtesy is not so common anymore. :uhoh3:

I haven't read through all five pages, but that REALLY sucks.

Our school has stressed that they want to PASS us, NOT FAIL us. With that in mind, they keep the math TOTALLY separate from the general content tests, and we have until November to pass with 1 incorrect answer (which translates to around 97%). You can take the test as many times as you need to in order to pass, so long as it's done before that November deadline.

Many of us tested out on the first try. The others get feedback on which types of questions they need work on, and they do practice tests and just keep trying until they get that 97%.

Our math/dosage test method is called ProCalc.

Ain't that the truth. It seems that netiquette has fallen by the wayside, now that everyone and their dog is on the 'net. Between netiquette faux pas and "netspeak" (eg: "How R U?"), it's enough to want to pull my eyes out with a red-hot pliers.

Oh, how I yearn for the old listserv days. :chuckle

To try and get this thread back on topic...

That really does sound harsh (!!!), but if the rule is there, then being prepared is a must. I'm sorry for your friends. :o If it was me in that situation I'd be pretty upset too.
