This may have been done before but I would like to hear about some off the wall orders you've seen MD's write...
Here are a couple from me...
Give 2mg Coumadin qd and prn :uhoh21:
Zantac 150mg q6hours and prn
I have more too but need to think:lol2:
I can attest to that-they're curved, and one side says "This side towards the enemy"and she says that if there's a warning like that on something, someone screwed up somewhere. She says that Claymore mines carried the following warning on their packaging: "This end towards enemy. Not a food product."
Obtain 3 pair of silk, satin or finely woven cotton gloves for patient. Massage hands with glycerine and rosewater then apply gloves every hs.
Written by our Head of Service. I had to call him and say Central supply was not able to obtain, so then he ordered ______cab co. to go to ______ department store and obtain.
Uhhh doc. we can't do that either. This was a patient in for same day surgery and 12h observatiion post op.
Would have been nice though to know where I can get some glycerine and rosewater, haven't seen that in years.

ugh.
I've seen med/surg docs way to easy with their long time pts, give orders like " do not wake between 11p & 6a unless tele off", and "may have ice cream regardless of glucose level" grrrr!!!
I hope their stricter with their kids!
I can kinda understand that last one. If I have an 85-yo LOL that's diabetic, I don't care what she eats, regardless of her blood sugar. She's 85, let her do whatever the heck she wants.
Also, I had a friend who diuresed 12 liters in 24 hours with postpartum cardiomyopathy....if I had been in her shoes, I would have DEMANDED a foley!!
Weirdo orders....Talking with a doc whose antepartum patient was 32 weeks preggy with quads & contracting: "Well, put her on the monitor & see what she's doing. And try to pick up all 4 babies." Thanks doc, I was gonna just try for 2 or 3 and hope for the best on #4....

Wow, sound more like a spa treatment than a medical one...can I get one of those with a milk&honey pedicure and an algae facial? Thanks ever so much......

Ooooh, that's gross. Although, I can't really blame the patient in question either. If something is available in PO form, I'll take that, thank you very much.
