The WORST day of my life....

Nursing Students General Students

So, I was basically about to pee my pants with excitement for orientation this morning. I got all ready to hear all about everything. Well, I get over to financial aid, expecting them to tell me they owe me $400..however, she said-"You owe $1100, how do you want to pay?". I freak out, because I am already using all the money I have, and I do not want to take out anymore loans. My school is $630/credit hour. And, I just can not afford it. So, looks like I will not be going to nursing school this year after all.

I am too upset for words....I just don't know what else to do.:sniff:

Yes. I HATE taking out loans. I really do, but it seems like my only option. School , LMU anyways, is so dang expensive.

The only way I would go there is if Blount Memorial were paying for it!!! That is something I have considered, if the online program doesn't work out.

Credit card would be a good option. Beg someone or borrow the money. Or make the money yourself. Got any bartending experience? Or go-go dancing? Both ways to make $300-$600 in one shot. I would do a lot of things to get the cash if I were in your situation. Good luck

Take out a private education loan. You can get them for pretty much any amount you need and from any lender, they are payment-deferred until 6 months after graduation, low interest, and you can take them out even if you've already maxed out financial aid. It's the reason I'm in summer school!!!

Also, contact your state/city career center and see if there are any work-education grants you can apply for. They have something like this in my state, although you have to be in the last 2 years of school.

Good luck.

p.s. I would NOT suggest a credit card unless it is your LAST resort! Even then, go for the private loan and pay off the credit card. The interest rates are too high, and you have to pay them off during school. It's usually a lose-lose situation.

I've read about financial aid problems that schools/states are experiencing. Apparently, banks are backing out from giving loans, and it's becoming a real problem I feel so sad for the many students who are or will be affected.

Don't let this financial aid problem keep you from your dream. Consider it a detour. I wish you the best, and I'm so sorry about the moment, but it will get better if you keep pushing and don't give up.

Edit: I read only your original post, then scrolled and saw your reply. Congratulations-it looks like your "detour" was fast! I'm so glad...my heart goes out to the people who struggle so much to make their career dreams come true because of financial problems...so glad to hear your story.

Just read this whole thread. And CONGRATS on getting it taken care of and staying the course! And not trying to freak you out or anything, but start thinking ahead for next semester too - so you're not caught off guard again. I can only imagine how you felt at that moment. But again, so glad it's working out for you now after that suprize short notice.

Hey everyone. Thanks for your suggestions and words of encouragement. After talking with my family, my best and really only option is to take out more loans. I already called the loan company and was approved for the extra $1100.

You guys are the best!!:heartbeat

I'm so glad to hear that. Glad you looked into it a little more, but sorry you had to take out more loans...I know that's not what you wanted to do. But you will now still be starting Nursing School...glad your worst day wasn't nearly as bad now!
