Do any of you guys know how much the VA pay new LPN grads?? I know the benefits are really good any ideas??
I recently resigned from my job at the VA. I'm an RN with lots of experience, and VA pay is kinda low. The numbers you've been quoted are waaaaay off.[/quote}you are correct, it surely depends on where you live, some VA medical sites pay scale is real low, I'm in Jackson and its 20, 000 less than the Houston VA- I also wanted to transfer to Seattle and it would of been 10,000 less, its about the step or grade. Nurses are categorized as nurse 1, 11, 111 and have 12 steps between each step until you get to the next category...:redbeathe
Does anyone know if all the VA Medical Centers pay the same for on-call and standby pay for units needing call? I have a friend who works for VA in San Francisco and gets 1/3 of her hourly rate for on-call pay and time and a half if called in for those hours worked. Do all the VA Medical Centers offer 1/3 of your hourly rate for on-call pay or is it done differently? Thanks for the hopeful replies.
that I don't know, but all the salaries are not equal depends on where you live, San Fransico is the highest paying VA in the system and Housotn is number 2 ..

Of course, one must take into account cost of living. I'm sure they have arranged it so that all pay is virtually equal at each locale, adjusted for cost of living. Try moving to Memphis...!:paw:
I've got to say that the government links with salary information have got to be some of the most confusing & complicated I have ever laid my eyes on! I'm a BSN student, and strongly considering working for the VA upon graduation. Just wanted to find out what starting salaries are.... IMPOSSIBLE TO DO!

I will say that in our area they are the only hospital to have a considerable pay difference between RN and BSN education levels (although it also depends on experience). Your best bet is to just call HR. If you really are interested, they may just tell you (or give you the pay schedule). They are different by locale anyway, so you'll have to contact your hospital of interest.
i have an ADN with no experience plus a BA. Will I be considered a nurse 1 level 2? how much is the starting salary for that level?
I believe an ADN education is a level one. They do not count previous education (such as a BA or BM) towards nursing pay. Only your nursing qualifications count. Also, they base se pay off of experience. A new BSN nurse may start off as a nurse I, step 2 or 3, and then graduate to nurse II after gaining some experience. This is how it was explained to me. If anyone knows for sure, or has specific information, please correct me! The best way to know for sure is to call HR at the specific VA you are considering.

you won't be able to find the pay online because it not posted, only on their intranet. the nursing office can give you that info- Houston VA is the 2nd highest paying station in the VA, San Fransico is number #1- go to usajobs.gov and you can check to see if they have openings- good luck! :wink2:
